We’ve been a little quiet online lately — but for good reason. After a massive response at the trade show, things have been moving fast behind the scenes… and now we’ve got some big updates to share.

🎉 Circular Eyewear just turned ONE! 🎉
A year ago, we set out to create real circularity in the eyewear industry — and thanks to your support, we’ve hit some major milestones:

♻️ Our SpexCycle recycling program is now running in over 100 optometry stores across Australia. Old frames are being collected, recycled, and reimagined into new ones — closing the loop on eyewear waste.

🕶️ And we’re now gearing up to supply our first stockists with Objekt — our bold, design-led eyewear brand made from high-grade recycled materials.

Thanks to everyone who’s been part of this journey so far — your belief in a more sustainable future for eyewear keeps us going.

Here’s to building a bigger, bolder, more circular year ahead.

♻️ Bring Your Old Glasses to the Show! ♻️

We’re collecting used specs at ODMA — and giving them a second life through Spexcycle, Australia’s first closed-loop eyewear recycling program.

👓 Got an old pair in the drawer? Drop them off and be part of a smarter, more sustainable optical industry.

Before products ever make it into your hands, there's a whole world of "pre-consumer waste" - and it's an important part of the recycling puzzle.

Pre-consumer waste is material that's discarded before it ever reaches a customer. In the world of eyewear this can include:

• Offcuts and scraps from manufacturing processes
• Frames that didn't pass quality control checks
• Dead stock - brand new frames that never made it to stores
• Unsold inventory sitting in warehouses or on retail shelves, forgotten and aging out.

At Spexcycle, we don't let these perfectly good materials go to waste. We collect and recycle pre-consumer acetate and frames alongside other types of waste, giving it a second life as part of beautiful, high quality frames.

Because sustainability shouldn't just start at the checkout!

When it comes to recycling, not all waste is created equal - but at Spexcycle, we dont discriminate. 👓♻️

There are 3 main types of plastic waste that can be recycled:

1. Pre-consumer - offcuts, unused materials and unsold items.

2. Post-consumer - Products that have already been used and discarded.

3. Manufacturing - Scraps, trimmings, and rejects from the factory floor (this also counts as pre-consumer too).

At Spexcycle, we proudly take on all three - giving every type of acetate waste a new life. Wether it's from your old frames, manufacturer's left overs or discarded eyewear, we turn it into something worth seeing through. 👀✨

Stay tuned as we break down each type of waste in our future posts. 💥

WHAT IS SPEXCYCLE..?

Spexcycle is Australia's first closed-loop eyewear recycling initiative, founded by Chris Savage an experienced optical dispenser and eyewear designer with a vision for change.
Through our collection and recycling process, we transform eyewear waste into new, sustainable frames, giving discarded materials a second life.
By reducing landfill and conserving natural resources, Spexcycle offers optical practices and their clients an easy, impactful way to make a difference.
We are redefining the future of eyewear, one recycled frame at a time.

MAKING POSITIVE IMPACT TOGETHER!

We are inviting a select group of optical practices to join our exclusive spexcycle pilot program. As a participant, you'll get the opportunity to shape the future of sustainable eyewear with us, provide valuable feedback, and enjoy exclusive benefits tailored just for our partners.

At Spexcycle, we reject greenwashing and embrace genuine, accountable solutions prioritising environmental responsibility. Together, we're redifining what's possible in eyewear, shaping a circular future where waste is minimised and sustainability is more than a vision, it's a shared practice!

📢Did You Know...?

Over 10 million frames are sold in Australia every year, and that most of them end up in landfill, contributing to a growing environmental crisis.

At Spexcycle, we're changing that! Our eyewear recycling program turns old, unused, or broken frames into high-quality new eyewear, helping optical practices join the circular economy and reduce waste in the industry.
🌱Together we can make a difference.

What is the Circular Economy..?

The circular Economy is a sustainable approach to business that aims to reduce waste, keep resources in use for as ling as possible, and regenerate natural systems. Unlike the traditional linear economy, which follows a "take, make, dispose" model, the circular economy focuses on designing products and processes that allow materials to be reused, recycled, or repurposed, minimising the environmental impact.

At Circular eyewear, we're proud to adopt this philosophy, pioneering a closed-loop manufacturing process in the eyewear industry through our Spexcycle™️ program.

Follow us on our journey in making sustainable practises the new norm!
