Cotton Australia

Cotton Australia Cotton Australia is the peak body for Australia’s cotton producers, supporting up to 1500 cotton growers Cotton Australia exists for its growers.

Its resources, human and financial, are directed to initiatives and programs that benefit cotton producers directly and indirectly. For more than 50 years, Cotton Australia has grown alongside an industry that demands the highest standards, and during that time has delivered a series of sustained wins for its growers. Cotton Australia was established in 1972 (as the Australian Cotton Foundation) a

nd in 2009 merged with the Australian Cotton Growers Research Association (also established in 1972). Led by a Board of 10 cotton growers and ginners, the organisation is funded by a voluntary levy paid by growers on each bale of cotton produced. Cotton Australia provides a united voice for cotton growers across research and development, stewardship, natural resource management, biosecurity and cotton production issues such as water. This is achieved though policy and advocacy, education, communication and grower services. Cotton Australia has offices in Sydney, Narrabri and Toowoomba and field staff based in most of the cotton production regions. The activities of Board and Staff are directed by an Annual Operating Plan, underpinned by a 2023-2028 Strategic Plan that sets out priorities and core areas of business.

There’s less than a week left to enter our Click 26 Photo Competition.

Need some inspiration? Our team has picked a few of their favourite entries from previous years:

📸 Mary chose Michelle Hutchinson’s wildlife photo: “I love seeing the biodiversity out in the cotton fields.”

📸 Ashley picked Tom Eather’s image: “This photo reminds me that hard work pays off.”

📸 Sophie selected Aimee Brock’s next generation photo: “It’s a beautiful snapshot of growing up on a cotton farm. The toy tractor makes it – a typical country kid surrounded by cotton.”

📸 Desley chose Annabelle Rogan riding her horse, Peanut: “It captures the beauty and freedom of life in the country.”

From the people behind the industry and life in cotton country to the work that goes into growing cotton and the unexpected moments that make our industry unique, we’d love to see your photos. Enter now: https://ow.ly/H1PE50ZaKtA

Cotton Grower of the Year finalist Lucas Wuersching farms near St George, QLD.

He manages 580ha of irrigation and 260ha of dryland cropping, with a strong focus on bankless irrigation, automation and telemetry.

Sensors, automatic gates and remote monitoring mean much of the system can now be managed from his phone, improving efficiency and reducing labour.

Rhys and Tricia run Warra Warra, a mixed irrigation and dryland farming business on the Darling Downs. Nominated for the Bayer Crop Science Australia cotton grower of the year award, they’ve built their operation around a strong team culture and believe managing people well is one of the key strengths of their business.

Being adaptable is a big part of how they farm. They regularly adjust their plans based on weather, water availability, seasonal conditions and crop needs, helping them respond quickly to changing circumstances.
