AI can write your performance review.

It can summarise the meeting, draft the email, even suggest what to say when someone's struggling.

But it can't sit across from someone having a rough week and just... notice.

It can't feel the shift in a room when trust is cracking. It can't tell when "I'm fine" means the opposite. It can't put a hand on someone's shoulder (metaphorically or literally) and say "I've got you" and mean it.

Here's the part nobody's talking about: as AI takes over more of the "doing" of leadership β€” the scheduling, the drafting, the analysing β€” the "being" part becomes more valuable, not less.

The leaders who'll matter most in the next five years aren't the ones who use AI the best.

They're the ones who double down on the one thing it can't replicate: showing up, fully human, for the people in front of them.

And the sharpest version of that skill? The coaching conversation.

Not telling people the answer. Asking the question that gets them to find it themselves. Holding space while someone thinks out loud. Knowing when to push and when to just wait. AI can generate a list of "powerful coaching questions" in two seconds β€” but it can't read the pause after you ask one, and it can't earn the trust that makes someone actually open up in the first place.

That's a skill. It's learnable. And it's the whole point of Leader as Coach, running 9 September 2026 in Sydney.

So this week, close the laptop for one conversation. No notes app. No "let me just check something." Just you, listening.

That's the job AI can't do for you.

What's one thing about leadership you'd never hand off to a machine?

Something shifts when you say a challenge out loud, and someone across the table says, yes, I've been there too.

That's what group coaching creates. Something shifts in how you think, not just how you feel.

Two cohorts β€” September or October. Online. Max 10 per group. Pay what you can.

There's a moment in almost every leadership role where you realise: giving better answers isn't the answer.

Your team is capable. But the dynamic has settled. They bring the problem, you provide the solution. Repeat.

What changes when you start asking instead of telling isn't just the conversation. It's what the person in front of you starts to believe about themselves.

Leader as Coach workshop: one day in Sydney, 9 September. Practical skills. Real practice.

Early bird pricing closes 18 August.

Last day of the financial year.

If you have professional development budget that hasn't been used, group coaching is worth a look before it resets.

Three sessions, small group of leaders, real challenges. September or October cohorts. Pay what you can.

Have you ever given someone advice, good advice, and then watched them do nothing with it?

Here's what I keep noticing: people are far more likely to act on their own ideas than on anyone else's.

The Leader as Coach workshop on 9 September is about building that skill. And if your organisation has professional development budget to use before EOFY, today is a good day to ask.

Early bird closes 18 August.

The thing that still surprises me about group coaching is how quickly a room of strangers becomes a room of people who genuinely help each other think.

There's something about working alongside people navigating similar challenges - without being inside each other's organisations - that creates a different kind of honesty.

Next cohorts start September and October.

Something I get asked a lot: when did you know coaching was the thing?

For me it was watching a leader ask one good question and seeing a team member completely change how they held a problem. The leader didn't solve anything. The team member did.

That's still what I find most interesting about this work.

Most leaders I work with carry this thought at some point.

It must be just me.

Here's what I've noticed when leaders come together: it's almost never just you.

Group coaching is a legitimate professional development investment β€” and with EOFY this week, worth checking whether your organisation has budget to use.

Two cohorts β€” September or October. Pay what you can.
