Hi everyone, I’m starting a school!!!
I don’t post here often but there are some big changes happening at my furniture workshop, Splinter co-op (ten designer/makers in one huge space).
We are moving from our Marrickville location to a premises in Kingsgrove with a nice long lease.
I’ve been doing my Bespoke furniture making here for around 11 years now and have taught fine woodworking classes here at Splinter for my friend Paul 3 or 4 times a week for the last 7 years.
Teaching started as a bit of side income to subsidise my main job as a maker but it has become a really rewarding part of my working week. With our impending move - Paul has decided to leave the co-op to set up another school so my colleague Orest and I have taken the opportunity to set up shop and keep a strong teaching element going at our new premises. It is a big undertaking to move a whole factory but we have done it once before so we know the drill and are halfway through the build in Kingsgrove. We will have the factory and machines up and running in January with the first woodworking classes starting at the beginning of February. We will run six classes a week, two day classes and four night classes so check out our website and if you know of any closet woodworkers who are keen to learn a new skill or hone a neglected one – please send them a link.
Keep it in mind if you are stuck for a Christmas present for someone – or maybe treat yourself?
