Week 4 of National Safe Work Month focuses on For all: action across all workplaces, encouraging us to turn October’s conversations into improvements that last throughout the year.

Now is the time to take stock of what has been learned. Improving a process, strengthening consultation, addressing a workplace risk or enhancing support for workers can all contribute to safer and healthier work.

Clear action plans. Better visibility of park tree assets. Less administration. Greater peace of mind for park managers.

These were some of the key topics discussed at this year’s BIG4 Holiday Parks Conference in Adelaide.

Our Consulting Arborist, Sam Munro, met with holiday park owners and operators to discuss the challenges of managing trees across their properties.

A common theme was the need for practical solutions that make tree management easier:

🌳 Clear action plans – Tree risk assessments that identify what needs attention, prioritise recommended works and outline when action is required.

🌳 Visibility of park tree assets – TreePlotter provides a visual overview of assessed trees, their locations and outstanding actions, helping park managers plan and track work.

🌳 Less administration – From coordinating tree works and council permits to updating records once work is complete, our customer care team helps manage the process.

A complex make-safe in practice.

How a fallen tree is removed matters when damaged property and restricted access are involved.

At this Castle Hill property, a large failed tree had fallen onto the boundary fence and impacted several insured structures.

Enviro Trees coordinated a four-person crew to dismantle the tree in controlled sections, minimising further impact on the surrounding property.

Standard machinery couldn’t reach the rear work area. Timber and branches had to be carried approximately 40 metres through a narrow access route for processing and removal.

The result: the failed tree and debris removed, leaving the site clear and ready for subsequent building works.

For insurance and repair teams, careful coordination helps resolve the tree hazard so the next stage of recovery can proceed.

Preventing harm remains the priority. Being prepared to support workers through recovery and a safe return to work also matters.

One Clear Risk Reduction Plan

Managing trees in a high-occupancy holiday park is about more than identifying hazards - it’s about making informed, defensible decisions.

At Tasman Holiday Parks in Wanaka, New Zealand, Enviro Trees assessed 120 trees using the QTRA methodology, evaluating tree condition, structure, vitality, defects and potential targets.

The assessment identified a small number of trees requiring removal, while the remaining trees were considered suitable for retention with ongoing monitoring.

The result was a clear, prioritised action plan that helped Tasman Holiday Parks:

▪ focus investment where intervention was genuinely required

▪ retain mature trees and site amenity wherever practical

▪ establish a mapped baseline for future inspections and ongoing tree management

For holiday parks and other high-use sites, a structured tree risk assessment provides the evidence needed to manage safety, budgets and long-term asset planning with confidence.

Some workplace hazards affect health long before the impact becomes visible.

Week 2 of National Safe Work Month focuses on For health: what WHS protects, highlighting the ways work can affect both physical and psychological health.

In the tree industry, noise, manual handling, repetitive work and exposure to dust or hazardous substances can affect workers over time. High workloads and fatigue also need attention when planning and managing work.

This week, Safe Work Australia encourages workplaces to identify one physical or psychosocial hazard, discuss how it could affect workers’ health and review the controls in place.

In Warwick, QLD, Enviro Trees was engaged to manage the safe removal of a large uprooted tree at the rear of a residential property.

With the root ball fully lifted and part of the tree extending into the neighbouring property, access was limited and machinery options were restricted. The job required careful planning, manual handling, controlled sectioning and small machinery to safely remove the tree, stump sections and debris.

The result: safe access restored, the rear of the property cleared, and the site left ready for follow-on fence repairs.

A practical example of coordinated emergency tree response when access, safety and property protection all matter.

A damaged or fallen limb or tree can affect more than the tree. It can threaten guests and workers, close a campsite, damage a cabin or disrupt access during peak occupancy.

Proactive tree management connects planned assessments with clear priorities, someone responsible for progressing recommendations and qualified arborists ready to complete the work.
