Most conversations about children and community stop at "teach them to be kind." That's not far enough.

Communifi (Zahia Pty Ltd) is proud to spotlight Community Minded Kids — an initiative built on the belief that community building and active contribution are essential parts of children's development, not optional extras layered on top.

It's grounded in the same principle we hold at the core of our own work: children, like adults, are treasure troves of existing strengths — not people waiting to be filled with lessons about giving.

The goal isn't charity. It's connection, belonging, and the lived understanding that they are already capable contributors to the world around them.

Educationally, this reflects place-conscious pedagogy — learning that's rooted in real community and real world, rather than treating community as a topic children study from the outside.

We're inviting our community of practitioners, educators, and fellow changemakers to explore what Community Minded Kids offers and consider how this thinking could shape the way young people experience belonging.

What would it look like if your community were the classroom?

We asked one of the world's leading voices in community development to review Youth Sparks. He said something that stuck with us.
Cormac Russell — author, social explorer and thought leader— sat down with the Youth Sparks card deck. His take? "It's not so much that young people aren't gifted — it's that they don't feel invited into a real conversation."

We built Youth Sparks on exactly this belief: young people are already carrying the gifts, curiosity and passion the world needs — our job isn't to fix, direct or manage them into place. It's to invite them into conversation and watch what sparks.
Youth Sparks drck includes a 50 page Digital Pack and 160 cards.

5 indpiring and strengths focused categories — Sparks, Grow & Glow, Create & Innovate, Spark Change, Future. One deck that helps you set down what you're trying to do for young people, and start doing it with them instead.

Want to see Cormac's full review? It's on our YouTube channel — link in bio.

And if you're ready to bring Youth Sparks into your practice, classroom or community, grab your deck at zahia.com.au/store.
💛 Bundle tip: pair Youth Sparks with the Megadeck for $430 total — GST included, shipped anywhere in Australia.

THANK YOU Kate Munro and Nurture Development for your support and endorsement. 🩷🙌🙏

The most community-minded people we know are usually under the age of 12.

Kids haven't yet learned to separate themselves from the people around them the way adults often do. Ask a five-year-old to share their lunch, their toy, their attention — and most will, without a second thought.

Community Minded Kids exists to protect that instinct, not replace it. It's a Communifi initiative designed to help children build on their natural sense of belonging and turn "me" into "we" — strengthening the muscle of community from the very start, rather than trying to build it from scratch later in life.

Our CMK initiative isn't about teaching kids to be kind. It's about creating the conditions where the kindness they already have gets to lead.

We're building this with educators, families, and community practitioners who believe the same thing.

The Let's Talk Community®️Youth Sparks has finally arrived!

The boxes are here. The deck is real. Youth Sparks is officially in stock.

We couldn't have picked a better week to say that. National Youth Volunteer Week (10–16 August 2026) is Australia's celebration of the leadership, energy, and community impact of young people — this year's theme, "Your Year to Lead," could just as easily be the tagline for Youth Sparks itself.

160 cards. Five categories. One goal: help young people see the strengths, gifts, and leadership they already carry — because that's where real community power starts.

A huge thank you to Kate Munro -Luminosity Youth Development Solutions, our founding sponsor, for backing this resource and believing in what it could become.
Youth Sparks is available to order now at zahia.com.au/store.

We'd love to see how you bring it into your work with young people — drop a comment below.

We carry ideas into every community we enter. Assumptions about who people are, what they need, what "should" happen next. Often without realising it.
Connections Before Content starts before any conversation, any workshop, any post. It starts with checking what we're assuming — about the people in front of us, about the community itself — and being willing to let those assumptions be wrong.

Real connection can't happen through a preconception. If we've already decided who someone is or what their community needs, we're not actually meeting them — we're meeting our own idea of them. Shifting our thinking, staying curious, and letting people define themselves is what opens the door to something real.

And that shows up most clearly in the questions we ask. "What's wrong here?" and "What can we fix?" carry an assumption before anyone's even answered. Trust and rapport come from different questions: What matters to you here? What's already working, that most people miss? Who are the people others turn to, and why? What would you want someone to understand about this place before they try to help?
❓ 🤔 The questions we lead with tell a community exactly what we think of them — so it's worth asking ones that assume strength, not deficit.

A quick check before you walk into your next space:
✅ What am I assuming about the people here, before they've said a word?
✅ Am I curious about who someone is, or already deciding it?
✅ Are my questions inviting their story, or confirming mine?
✅ Where might my idea of "what this community needs" be more about me than them?
✅ Am I showing up as a collaborator and facilitator, or slipping into the role of saviour or hero?

Content, plans, and solutions come later. Connection begins with the questions we're brave enough to actually ask.

What question could you ask differently this week?
