Through our national reach, the lived experience of our Aboriginal and Torres Straight Islander consultants, and our approaches built from more than a decade delivering projects of this scale, we are well-placed to support Westpac in identifying and understanding the significant barriers First Nations communities may experience accessing mainstream financial services, resulting in limited opportunities for wealth accumulation and financial stability.

Leveraging our teams from across the country, we are engaging with 19 communities and seeking guidance from First Nations leaders to explore how banking can better support aspirations in home ownership, business development, and everyday financial wellbeing. We are excited to share insights and outcomes that will shape the future of banking for First Nations peoples.

On the 28th anniversary of the Bringing Them Home Report, we stand in solidarity with Stolen Generation survivors and amplify this year's National Sorry Day theme.

Many recommendations from the Report, first tabled in Parliament back in 1997, still require implementation and the urgency for action can't be overstated. With each year that passes, more survivors leave this life having never received adequate redress or support.
𝗪𝗲 𝗰𝗮𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝘄𝗮𝗶𝘁 𝗮𝗻𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻.

The Healing Foundation identifies the following priority issues to address:

• Most survivors are eligible for aged care but are faced with an aged care system which often re-triggers the trauma of institutionalisation
• Western Australia and Queensland are yet to introduce any redress schemes, and other state and territory schemes are flawed
• Many survivors and families still don’t have access to their records
• The incredible organisations that support survivors on the ground are often either volunteer-run or receive project funding only, which doesn’t allow for the workforce and organisational investment needed to build and retain organisations and staff.

Today we honour all remaining survivors and pay our respects to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people impacted by forced removal under government policy.

• designing 𝗰𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝘀𝗮𝗳𝗲𝘁𝘆 𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗳𝗿𝗮𝗺𝗲𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝘀
• embedding 𝗵𝘂𝗺𝗮𝗻 𝗿𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗽𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗰𝘆 and business operations

Ching is a Hokkien, Cantonese non-Indigenous man living and working on Wurundjeri country in Naarm (Melbourne). Ching brought his design thinking to our business back in 2016 when he joined as a Manager. He was promoted to Senior Manager in 2019 and Director in 2021. Ching has a degree in design anthropology and will lead our Design and Transformation offering. Ching is particularly adept at working with clients to:

• apply 𝗱𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻-𝗹𝗲𝗱 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗜𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗼𝘂𝘀 𝗺𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗼𝗱𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝗶𝗲𝘀 to enable meaningful change
• develop and implement 𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝘀𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗴𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗺𝘀

Congratulations to PIC’s Digital and Innovation Team who were recognised for a Gold Award in Social Impact by the Good Design Awards of Australia for AIME's online education platform, IMAGI-NATION {University}.

The project was an opportunity to fundamentally alter education in Australia and around the world - and all based on Indigenous values. PIC was the primary partner in designing, developing, and delivering this project into reality, with support from PwC and Salesforce.

The jury commented that it was “Great to see the care taken to bring together both the learnings and the hopes of the young people served. This is a strong, necessary, and ambitious idea that is beautiful and sensitive, generated and developed by and for the people who will most need it and use it. Could be a real game changer in reframing education. Many people talk about evolving education, but this might actually do it. Overall, a really impressive example of design for impact and a standout project that ticks every box for good design in this category. Well done.”
