Jay is a photographer and creative director, and the founder of Bad Seed, a production studio specialising in photography, social creative direction and making things look good on the internet.
His love of photography started young. “I honestly can’t remember a time when I didn’t want to take photos.” In 2006, he got his first SLR camera and, shortly after, “a cracked copy of Photoshop” — and the rest is history.
Growing up in the UK, Jay was obsessed with Kerrang! magazine and the bands inside it. Years later, he found himself photographing those same artists and even shooting the magazine’s front cover. “I still pinch myself that it actually happened.”
Photography has since taken Jay around the world, touring with artists across the UK, Europe, Japan and North America, as well as working with clients across music, entertainment and beyond.
His approach to photography is pretty true to his personality: curious, observational and not too serious. “I have always found the idea of being an outlier and quietly observing people really fascinating. Think classic people-watching, just in the least creepy way possible!”
Outside of work, Jay is constantly working on creative projects, experimenting with AI, photographing alternative weddings and finding ways to combine his photography with his love of animals.
If photography disappeared tomorrow, he’d open an animal rescue somewhere in the countryside. Although he’s waiting until “a drone can drop-ship a decent vegan burger to the middle of nowhere” before making the move.
At Desk Space, it’s the community — and, unsurprisingly, the dogs — that Jay loves most. His top tip for new members? Head to the Level 1 kitchen window for a prime view of the doggy daycare next door. 🐶
