At MELO handmades, Melody combines plant matter, non-toxic metal salts and fibre in the most wonderful natural alchemic process to create one-of-a-kind pieces. Pigments are carefully coaxed from sustainably sourced botanicals, floral and kitchen waste to colour fibres using a variety of techniques. Every piece is small batch, hand dyed and crafted by Melody in her Sydney-based home studio, so each one is truly unique.

A little life update from behind the scenes…

I started a new part time job last month, a desk job, in the office. My first in-person office job since moving to Sydney. And my first time working for someone else (that’s not my toddler😅) as a mum.

It felt like a good time for me to try something new, to shake things up a little.
It feels like a very small and very big deal all at the same time.
And while I don’t want to stop making, I’m still trying to figure things out. Things are going to slow down quite a little over here (which isn’t necessarily a bad thing) so do bear with me.

And very grateful for the support from and who are always giving me grace re: uncertain timelines.

No Black Friday sale over here at .handmades because I price my wares & services fairly and don’t have a large profit margin (tbh I barely have one but that’s another story). I’m not marking up 3, 4, 5 or 10 times, only to slash prices for a single weekend to make it look like a “good deal”. Besides, it’s just unsustainable - environmentally, socially, economically… When you buy from me (and other small independents), you’re investing in knowledge, learnt experience and the care and love put into making each and every piece by hand. You’re investing in the human(s) behind the goods.

So no, I’m not offering a sale on my shop. Instead, I’ll be supporting other small businesses and makers that I know hold these values too.
