I recently shared my insights with Alexandra Senter from The Big Smoke Media Group on the workplace dynamics amidst the current cost of living crisis. Alexandra delved into two key trends: the rise of Bill Fairies vouchers as a popular employee gift and the evolving employer-employee relationship regarding work-related expenses.

Reflecting on this, it is evident that we are yet to establish a workplace model that aligns with the present demands and future needs of both employees and employers. As we navigate this transition, I am excited to focus on my new role as co-founder and director of Bill Fairies, an innovative online gifting service focused on paying bills directly.

Keen to hear your thoughts on the article and the trends shaping gifting practices and workplace dynamics (posted below). What observations have you made in these areas lately? https://thebigsmoke.com.au/2024/10/08/navigating-the-shifting-workplace-sophia-symeou-on-employee-support-amid-the-cost-of-living-crisis/

INS creates a dedicated assessment centre

INS has created over 100 work-based capability assessments and has assessed 400+ clients, developing detailed reports on individuals’ level of capability for assigned roles mapped against Capability Frameworks.

Work-based assessments are tailored to specifically assess an individual’s capability to undertake the key components of a role from day 1, to the level required by the role.

This enables employers to understand applicants’ capabilities and transferable strengths. Individuals are placed into roles that are significant career changes, enjoying their jobs and thriving in their positions.

Every now and then I read an article that really excites me. This article about an innovative approach to recruitment employed by a New York based company, Greyston Bakery, made my day! Many companies, mine included, are searching for ways in which we can be a formidable force for good. Greyston Bakery has found a way to use its recruitment for entry level roles to make a solid difference to community through a practice they have coined Open Hiring. In my experience the key thing to making this approach work is 200% commitment by the leadership, embedding it into the very fibres of your organisation’s culture. If you’re game, and it’s relevant, and you are willing to put your money where your mouth is, wow, is this a practice that could change your world. Please enjoy the read!

This US company has a first in, first served approach to hiring and it has seen some great results, it's called open hiring. Should more businesses do this?

INS is proud to present this case study outlining its success working with the NSW Government to develop and implement a tailored Talent Mobility Pathway. The pathway provided an innovative alternative to large-scale redundancies of employees impacted by the introduction of the National Disability Insurance Scheme within NSW. The savings achieved were significant, which for an innovative, first-of-its-kind program is particularly noteworthy. The greatest privilege was designing and implementing a ground-breaking program, while maintaining our commitment to treat people as individuals with dignity and respect.
