Our Yarraman Head.
These beautiful heads are through the town of yarraman occupying the business within the town, each uniquely decorated to display character and a photo opportunity for travelers who visit our beautiful town.
Previously known as “The Water Inn Cafe” now known as “ Yarramarnos” we were the first business to adopt a “Yarraman”, and previous owners called on local artist Anthony Donas to help decorate it.
The idea for the Yarraman heads came from the original head of the town, known as one of the biggest is the giant wooden head that’s been located at the Royal Hotel for more than 30 years. 😱
No one is quite certain who carved it or why, so it remains a mystery
But the most commonly accepted explanation is that a group of Maori workers employed during the Tarong Power Station construction in the 1980s finished off a night on the town by taking their chisels to a large block of wood thus creating a unique town mascot. How amazing is that?!
So come on through to yarraman and come and find all the amazing heads, take a photo and tag us or the other local business in the one of a kind “Yarraman head” photo.
