“Being on the move is better than doing nothing.”

You don’t need the perfect workout.
You don’t need to smash yourself every session.
You just need to MOVE.

Walk. Run. Train. Play. Stretch. Get outside.

Something will always beat nothing.

Small movements. Consistent effort. Long-term results.

Move with purpose. 💪🏽

🏃‍♂️ Why we be putting a tennis ball between their ankles?

It might look like a simple calf raise, but there’s a purpose behind it.

Using the ball gives young athletes something to focus on while they learn how to keep their feet and ankles strong and controlled as they push into the ground.

Why does that matter?

Stronger, more stable ankles can help athletes:
⚡ Produce force when sprinting
⚡ Handle quick ground contacts
⚡ Improve jumping and landing control
⚡ Build the lower-leg strength needed for sport

We’re not just doing exercises to make athletes tired.

We’re teaching them how to use their body better.

Most youth athletes train hard… but they’re missing these 5 things.

Every athlete wants to be faster, stronger and more explosive.

But at Strong Movement, we don’t just chase performance—we build athletes from the ground up.

These are our 5 Non-Negotiables that every athlete develops.

✅ 1. Movement Competency
Move well before moving fast. Quality movement creates the foundation for everything else.

✅ 2. Force Manipulation
Learn to produce and absorb force safely and efficiently through strength, acceleration and landing.

✅ 3. Elasticity Expression
Build spring, stiffness and reactivity through plyometrics, skipping and tendon-focused training.

✅ 4. Direction Control
Master deceleration, cutting and change of direction so speed can be used where it matters most.

✅ 5. Fatigue Resistance
The best athletes don’t just perform once—they can repeat high-quality efforts when the game gets tough.

These five principles shape every assessment, every drill and every session we coach.

Because developing great athletes isn’t about doing more…

It’s about training what matters.

Is Your Ankle Costing You Speed? 👣⚡

Have you ever asked the question:

“Can my ankle actually produce the movement I’m asking it to?”

Your ankles are the first point of contact with the ground.

If they don’t move well…
➡️ force can’t be absorbed efficiently.
➡️ force can’t be redirected efficiently.
➡️ force can’t be produced efficiently.

That affects almost everything in sport:

✅ Sprint acceleration
✅ Top-end speed
✅ Jump performance
✅ Landing mechanics
✅ Change of direction
✅ Deceleration ability
✅ Balance and stability

That’s why we start with assessment—not guesswork.

The 3 Simple Tests

🔹 1. Weight-Bearing Lunge Test
Measures ankle dorsiflexion.

Limited dorsiflexion has been associated with altered squat mechanics, reduced landing quality, and compensatory movement strategies that may increase loading elsewhere in the kinetic chain.

🔹 2. Single-Leg Balance
Assesses your ability to control the ankle, foot and hip while maintaining posture.

Good balance reflects effective neuromuscular control—an important quality for reducing unnecessary movement during running and cutting.

🔹 3. Single-Leg Hop & Stick
Tests dynamic control.

This is where athletes demonstrate whether they can absorb force, stabilise quickly and maintain alignment after landing.

Poor control here often shows up long before it appears during competition.

Remember…

These aren’t “pass or fail” tests.

They’re baseline assessments.

They help identify:

• Mobility restrictions
• Stability deficits
• Side-to-side asymmetries
• Movement quality issues

Once you know where the limitations are, your training can become far more targeted.

In Strength & Conditioning, assessment drives programming.

We don’t chase exercises.

We identify the limiting factor, then progressively improve it through appropriate loading, mobility, strength, plyometrics and sprint progressions.

Because better movement creates better performance.

Save this post, test yourself, record your results, and retest in 4 weeks.

Progress starts with measuring.

📚 Evidence-based note: These screening tests help identify movement characteristics and potential areas for improvement. They are performance assessments—not diagnostic tools. If you experience pain, significant swelling, or persistent symptoms, consult an appropriately qualified healthcare professional.

Springy, Reactive ankles!

You need 5 minutes with a skipping rope.

Skipping is one of the simplest ways to build athletic ankles, yet it’s often overlooked.

Here’s what happens when you skip consistently:

✅ Improves ankle stiffness and elasticity, allowing your tendons to store and release energy more efficiently.
✅ Strengthens the calf-Achilles-foot complex, helping your body tolerate the repeated impacts of sprinting.
✅ Develops reactive strength, teaching your feet to spend less time on the ground and produce more force.
✅ Improves rhythm, coordination and footwork that transfer directly into acceleration and change of direction.
✅ Builds tendon capacity, reducing the likelihood of overuse injuries when progressed appropriately.

Why does ankle stiffness matter for speed?

In sprinting, you don’t want a “soft” ankle that collapses every time your foot hits the ground.

You want a stiff, spring-like ankle that quickly transfers force into the ground. The better your ankle can store and release elastic energy, the more efficiently you’ll accelerate, sprint and change direction.

Think of your Achilles tendon like a spring:

* A weak spring absorbs energy and loses it.
* A strong spring stores energy and gives it straight back.

That’s exactly what high-performing athletes do every time they sprint.

🎯 Challenge: Skip for just 5 minutes every day for the next 30 days.

Start with both feet, progress to alternating feet, single-leg skipping, and high-speed skips as your coordination improves.

Small habits create big athletic changes.

There are injuries that show up on an MRI…

And then there are the ones nobody can see.

The hesitation.

The second guessing.

The split second where you choose to slow down instead of trusting your body.

From the outside, everyone thinks you’re back.

You’re training.

You’re playing.

You’re smiling.

But inside, every sprint feels like a question.

“What if it happens again?”

If you’ve ever felt that, I want you to know something…

You’re not weak.

You’re not soft.

You’re not mentally fragile.

Your brain is doing exactly what it was designed to do—protect you from something it remembers as a threat.

The goal of rehabilitation isn’t simply to get rid of pain.

It’s to rebuild trust.

Trust in your Achilles.

Trust in your knee.

Trust in your hamstring.

Trust that your body can accelerate, change direction, jump, land and sprint again without fear.

That kind of confidence isn’t built with motivational speeches.

It’s built through consistent exposure, intelligent training, and proving to yourself—one repetition at a time—that your body is capable.

One day you’ll realise something…

You didn’t think about your injury.

You just played.

And that’s the moment you know you’re becoming the athlete, that is built on confidence and trust.

❤️ If this resonates with you, comment “TRUST” below.

Someone else might need to know they’re not going through this alone.
