I was curious to compare the volume/weight of granulated HDPE versus bottle caps. The orange material is from a wheelie bin lid. It weighs 415g and is approximately 200 × 220 × 30mm in size. The bag next to it contains 80 CCA 28mm bottle caps. It's about the same dimensions as the granulate but only weighs 152g.
The two bowls contain 152g (80) and 415g (224) of CCA bottle caps respectively.

The moral of all this is that if I granulate my bottle caps, I will realise a 65% volume reduction. This means a cubic metre will contain the equivalent of 240,000 bottle caps when granulated instead of 86,000 in their original form.

Another plastic bag blitz update. Since last tine, I have washed over 500 bags by myself, which is most of that bulk bag I pictured last time. The wheelie bin in this picture has 250 black bags in it. HELP IS STILL REQUIRED because there's a long way to go. Government agents were seen snooping around here again yesterday so the stakes are still high. The government wants these bags landfilled but I REFUSE!

In recent weeks I've been exploring the concept of "agglomeration" for "soft plastics" (films and bags etc.). The smallest model is only about $7k (not that much really), BUT when you check the specifications you find it weighs 1,500kg and uses 55kW of 3-phase power. 55kW would cost about $18/hr to run. So, I'm going to investigate whether the concept will still work on a (much) smaller scale.

Plastic Bag Blitz update: These photos show work I did on the weekend. Probably about 10 hours in total over three days to do this. There is a lot of time waiting for the bags to dry but the sunny weather has helped a lot. There are 170 ReCan bags and about 40 supermarket bags in this batch.
The last photo shows a bulk bag full of dirty plastic bags which need to be washed and processed. I have at least six more of these ready to go now and I refuse to landfill them, so I need help to get them processed. Thank you to the two people who have responded so far, hoping I can get more hands on deck.

It's time for another plastic bag blitz at Precious Plastic (Taringa)

There are currently no plastic bag processors in Queensland (RedCycle is based in Victoria). 100% of plastic bags disposed of in waste bins are landfilled in this State. This needs to change and it starts now. Come and help process a large mountain of plastic bags and keep them away from landfill!

Tasks include:
* Wash/Rinse
* Hang out to dry
* Sort and store clean dry bags
* Densifying

How you can help:
* Take some bags home to process in your own time
* Provide space to hang washed bags out to dry (up to 6 hours depending on weather)
* Visit PPT headquarters to help out anytime between 0600 and 1900 (any day except Tuesdays). Even one or two hours will make a big difference. Please PM/text/email before visiting.

Send a PM, send a text to 0490 060778 or email [email protected] to learn more or offer help.

Just a quick note to let everyone know that Precious Plastic (Taringa) is still going strong and expanding in spite of (and possibly because of) the efforts of government agents. I haven't posted much here because these same government agents are monitoring this page so it's better to just keep working and not feed them anything.

What I can say is that I'm past half a million bottle caps now! I still want more plastic items for recycling. I recently took delivery of 25 busted wheelie bins which are being cut up ready for the shredder.
