The Dawson Valley Santa Sale at the Taroom Showgrounds on Tuesday produced a solid result for four vendors, with bulls selling to an impressive top of $40,000 on two occasions, averaging $14,694 and grossing $720,000.
The sale-top price of $40,000 was first achieved by Lot 4, Jamally Wi******er W16 (P), a 23-month-old son of Rosevale Shanghai S598 (PP) from a Jamally Tahlia T9 cow.
Offered by James and Alison Becker, Jamally Santa Gertrudis, Taroom, Wi******er was described by his breeders as a bull with "real sire presence", combining a strong masculine head, length of body and a slick coat.
They regarded him as the pinnacle of their selective breeding program and a sire ranking at the upper end of his growth profile.
The standout youngster was purchased for $40,000 by Scott Dunlop, Dunlop Santa Gertrudis, pictured with vendor Allison Becker and the top price bull.
The figure was matched by Lot 16, Annabranch Wally W50 (P), a 25-month-old son of Glenn Oaks Sterling S314 (PP) from an Annabranch Santa Stud dam, offered by his breeders Luke and Carly Baker, Wandoan.
The powerful young sire attracted strong competition before selling to Wil Barlow, Wilamba Santa Gertrudis, Jambin, for the equal top-price of $40,000.
The second-highest price of $35,000 was also reached twice.
Lot 5, Jamally Waratah W40 (PP), sold to GNM Trust for $35,000. Another son of Rosevale Shanghai S598 PP, Waratah was bred from the proven Jamally Josie J15 (PP) cow.
The Beckers described him as a quality bull with a strong, broad head and tremendous length from poll to tail.
The other $35,000 purchase was Lot 12, Annabranch Warrior W10 (PS), which was secured by Peter Seawright, Jazmaree Santa Gertrudis, Injune.
Warrior is a son of Glenn Oaks Sterling S314 (PP) and out of Kabunga West N109, a female purchased as a yearling heifer in 2023.
Warrior represented one of the standout young sires in the Annabranch draft and drew strong stud-sector interest.
