Two boards, two stories, same tiny workshop.

First up — an ironbark brisket board with a damaged edge. Cut out the damage, and add a bowtie plug to stabilise and repair it. A bit of shaping, sanding, and a fresh coat of finish, and it's ready to go back to work.

A quick reminder: timber was once a living thing, and it never really stops moving with temperature and moisture — even when it's been looked after perfectly. That's not damage, that's just wood being wood. Treated with care, this board has years left in it.

Second board — a well-worn cutting board. Skim the surface to remove the marks. A lot of sanding and four coats of our food-safe board butter later, and it looks better than brand new. Back into the kitchen.

The moral of the story: a good quality timber board, looked after properly, will outlast most things in your kitchen. And when it does pick up some wear and tear, it can usually be brought back to life.

This beautiful chef's knife was handmade for my son by the boys at Iron Gate Knives. It features a stonewashed N690 steel blade and an abalone shell handle — truly a work of art.

Because it's one of a kind, I want to make sure it's stored safely and protected from damage. So I'm building a wall-mounted magnetic knife holder, and maybe a simple display case too, at our tiny little workshop in Taylors Beach.

I crashed out in the first round but the 🤠🥟 Great Mexican Cowboy Eating Competition at Dumpling Mama’s last night was so much fun!

Dumpling Mama's Bar & Dining is one of my favourite places to eat in the Bay - if you haven't tried it yet then you are missing out.

Dumpling Mama's Bar & Restaurant is one of my absolute favourite restaurants in the Bay, & serves the best hand made dumplings.

I'll be participating in the Cowboy Eating Competition at Dumpling Mama's Bar & Dining tomorrow (Tuesday 9th July). Come and watch me as I take on Mama's spicy Cowboy dumplings and emerge triumphant. Or as I fail miserably.

This custom bath caddy started life as a beautiful timber slab, shaped and sanded by hand in our tiny little workshop in Taylors Beach. Finished with Whittle Waxes hard wax oil for a silky satin glow that's built to last.

Staged here with a candle, a glass of something bubbly, and a clean white flannel — because that's exactly the kind of evening this caddy was made for. 🥂

As promised, finished pictures of the companionway for a 40-year-old sailing boat undergoing some restoration.

These pictures show the old item, as well as a prototype that we made to ensure a perfect fit.

The customer also wanted their design included, and of course we were happy to oblige.

The end result looks great, and I am keen to get out on Kardinia for a sail around the bay!
