More than 500 mobile plant incidents were reported to SafeWork NSW in a single year. Eight involved a fatality.

It’s a useful reminder that mobile plant isn’t just forklifts. Excavators, loaders, trucks, rollers and other moving machinery all need to be considered when people are working nearby.

The biggest issue is often where movements overlap.

Plant routes. Pedestrian paths. Blind spots. Changing site conditions.

SafeWork isn't just checking the hard hats anymore.

They're also looking at how people are being managed at work.

SafeWork NSW has launched its largest-ever compliance operation focused on psychosocial hazards, with workplace visits happening across NSW over six weeks.

In their last round, inspectors visited more than 200 workplaces and issued over 80 improvement notices.

So what's this got to do with your business?

Think about the everyday stuff. Staff being overloaded, unclear instructions, ongoing workplace conflict or people raising concerns that never get followed up.

These things can create real health and safety risks, even when everything on site looks fine.

A good place to start? Talk to your team about what's making their jobs harder than they should be, then follow through on what needs fixing.

There’s plenty of impressive machinery on show at Henty this week.

And for businesses looking at new equipment, there’s another side worth thinking about once the excitement of the new machine wears off.

How will people use it?
Does anyone need additional training?
Will it change vehicle or pedestrian movements?
What does maintenance now look like?

New plant can change more than the task it was bought for. It can change the way work happens around it too.
