Most owners know their business by feel, which weeks are busy, which jobs are good, when money's tight. That instinct is real, and it built the place.

But instinct can't tell you your margin moved 4%, or that one service is quietly subsidising another.

Management reporting in plain language, not accountant-speak, is how good instincts become great decisions.

Gut feel built your business. But the bigger the decisions get, the more they deserve real numbers behind them.

Up-to-date books turn "I think we're fine" into "here's what we can afford."

That's the difference between a bookkeeper who records the past and one who helps you decide the future. We aim to be the second kind.

There's a difference between working IN your business and working ON it. One fills the day. The other builds the future.

Every hour an owner spends on data entry and chasing receipts is an hour not spent on pricing, people, or the next opportunity.

The first step to working on the business? Hand the books to someone whose business IS the books.

Small business is the backbone of the Central Coast.

NSW Small Business Month is a chance to recognise the cafes, trades, clinics, shops, and family businesses that keep our community running, often run by people who quietly carry an enormous amount.

To every small business owner reading this, thank you for the work you do. We're proud to support businesses across Terrigal and the wider Central Coast.

October marks the start of the second quarter of FY27.

A new quarter is a natural moment to step back and ask what you want the next 90 days to actually look like. Cleaner reporting? Better cashflow visibility? Tighter payroll processes?

Whatever it is, the start of a quarter is the easiest time to put something in place.

Q1 BAS is due 28 October for self-lodgers, or 25 November on a registered BAS agent's books.

The date is half the story. The payment is the other half, and a GST bill is much friendlier when the money was set aside as you earned it, not found in a hurry the week it's due.

A 15-minute chat this week can take it off your worry list: https://calendly.com/fcaterrigal/newclientbusinessconsultation?month=2026-09

Cash flow forecasting isn't just for big businesses.

Looking ahead at the next quarter, your expected income, your fixed costs, and any large bills coming up, is what keeps a business out of trouble.

A simple forecast updated monthly is one of the most underrated habits a business owner can build.

The reports say you made money. The bank account disagrees.

The profit is usually hiding in unpaid invoices, stock on shelves, or tax set aside too late. Profit and cash are not the same thing, and mixing them up is how profitable businesses still miss payroll.

If your profit keeps going missing, send us a message. We'll show you where it went.
