If your investigation ends at human error, there is every chance you haven't finished the job ⛑️🔍

When a workplace incident occurs, it's easy to point to an individual's mistake as the cause. However, effective workplace incident investigation looks deeper into the systemic factors that allowed that mistake to happen in the first place.

We help teams develop the skills to conduct thorough, unbiased investigations that lead to genuine safety improvements rather than just a checklist of blame.

Strengthen your safety culture with expert investigation training: https://leadershipandperformance.com.au/work-health-and-safety-training/workplace-incident-investigation/

In business, we often think of negotiation as a high-stakes confrontation where one side must lose for the other to win. In reality, the most successful negotiators focus on building long-term value and sustainable agreements.

Whether you are dealing with internal stakeholders, external contractors, or complex procurement, your ability to navigate the conversation determines the outcome.

Our Negotiation Skills workshops focus on:
⚖️ Preparation: understanding your BATNA (Best Alternative To a Negotiated Agreement).
⚖️ Communication: moving from positions to mutual interests.
⚖️ Emotional Control: staying focused on the problem, not the person.
⚖️ Being tailored to your business needs: we use case studies and role plays relevant to your team.

Improving your team's negotiation skills does more than just save money. It preserves relationships and ensures smoother project delivery.

Self-awareness is the foundation of every successful leader. It refers to a leader’s ability to understand their own emotions, values, strengths, weaknesses, behaviours, and the impact they have on others.

Using 360-degree feedback tools or behavioural assessments such as DISC allows leaders to see past their own blind spots.

When you understand your impact on others, you can: 💡 Build deeper trust with your team.
💡 Communicate with greater clarity.
💡 Make better decisions under pressure.
💡 Identify areas for improvement

Leadership growth starts with a willingness to look in the mirror. Strong leadership starts with knowing yourself first.

Many small business owners feel that leadership development is something reserved for large corporations.

In reality, leadership is even more critical in a small business where every individual interaction has a potential impact on the bottom line.

Whether you have a workplace with five or fifty people, the principles remain the same. Clear communication, defined values & expectations, and a leader who knows how to support and coach their people will always outperform a business that has low engagement with its employees.

Investing in your own and others leadership growth is the fastest way to scale your business and build a team that is as committed to your success as you are.

Onboarding is a critical process that helps new employees transition smoothly into an organisation.

Effective onboarding sets expectations, builds confidence, and lays the foundation for long-term success.

By using tools such as DISC or the Myers Briggs Type Indicator during the onboarding phase, there are valuable insights for a new starter and the employer:
✅ Preference for receiving instructions.
✅ Communication & decision-making style.
✅ Interaction with existing team members.

When you understand the "how" behind a person’s work style from day one, you can tailor your onboarding to ensure they hit the ground running and stay for the long term.

In high-pressure environments like mining and construction, what isn't being said is often just as important as what is.

When team members feel they cannot speak up about a mistake, a hazard, or a better way of doing things, the business faces a quiet crisis.

Psychological safety is the foundation of a high-performance culture. It's about creating an environment where candid feedback is expected and the risk from silence is minimised.

Is your culture encouraging silence or supporting a safe and productive environment? Let’s discuss how our programs can help your team find their voice.

It was a pleasure to visit Parkes recently to continue our work with the team at Peter Woods & Associates (PWACA).

Samantha Bennett engaged us to facilitate the Myers Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) for three of their newest team members, ensuring they have the same behavioural insights as the rest of the established team.

The two-day program included:
📍 Individual debriefs: one-on-one sessions to provide a detailed explanation of individual MBTI reports.
📍 Team workshop: a collaborative session using the MBTI Team Report to understand collective strengths.
📍 Emotional intelligence: exploring concepts like the Chimp Paradox to manage internal reactions and improve workplace interactions.

By investing in these insights, PWACA is ensuring that every team member, new or old, has the tools to communicate effectively and support one another.

We look forward to seeing these actions implemented in the coming months.

When was the last time you asked your team "What is one thing I can do to make your job easier this week?" 🤝💬

Leadership does not always require a 2-hour meeting. Sometimes, it is found in a 2-minute conversation.

A simple, consistent check-in builds trust, identifies roadblocks early, and shows your team that their performance is supported, not just monitored.

Try asking that one question today and see what you learn.

Too often, the best technical workers are promoted into leadership and management roles without being given the tools to actually lead people. It is a transition that requires a completely different skill set.

If you have recently promoted new supervisors or managers, ensure they have the support they need to succeed in their new environment.

Today is International Workers' Day, a time to acknowledge the dedication, skill, and resilience of the people who keep our industries moving.

Whether it is on a mine site in the Hunter Valley, a construction project in Mudgee, or a corporate office in Newcastle, the success of any business is defined by its people.

High performance is never just about systems or technology; it is about creating an environment where workers feel safe, valued, and empowered to do their best work.

We are proud to partner with organisations that prioritise the development and wellbeing of their teams.
