We all love visionary companies and people. Sadly, most people wouldn't know a vision if it bit them on the t**h. On the other hand, we all love to buy from a company that delights and surprises us with new products and services beyond what we can imagine.
If you are leading a business competing on price, like any commodity, someone will sell it cheaper than you sooner or later.
The only way to exceed the wildest expectations is to lead by anticipating future paradigms and creating products and services that are ahead of their time.
Of course, there are risks. However, it's riskier to do nothing, compete on price, or play copy cat.
There are 7 levels of vision. Most companies operate from levels 1 to 4. Some are at level 5. The best are levels 6 and the ultimate 7.
Would you prefer to build a reputation for being competitive or visionary? I'll take visionary every day!
These business lessons apply equally to your personal life. A visionary personal life is not something most people think about. Why? Because they set goals that are sold to them by people selling them stuff. Take retirement, for example. Why retire when you love what you are doing? Who sold us on the nonsense of retiring?
Did you know that the last 17 years of your life often have the worst health? So if you retire at 65, then you are just in time for the huge decline. I say screw that. Work until you drop. At least you will be happy.
