THE BEST REPORT IN MYOB

What is the best report that MYOB can produce? By far, it has to be the Profit & Loss "Multi-Period Spreadsheet" report, yet some businesses run MYOB for years without ever producing this report.

Run the report once, for the financial year to-date, click the "Send to Excel" button at the bottom of the screen and see what you end up with. A detailed breakdown of all income, cost of sales and expense items broken up by month in a neat table form!

This data is extremely useful to a business owner even as it is, but once the data is in Excel you can do so much more with it. You can easily spot seasonal trends in income and expense categories, you can determine relationships between items, for example income and cost of sales categories, and you can spot blow-outs in expense categories in certain periods - and find out exactly why this occurred.

This data is also an excellent basis for producing cashflow projections and profitability projections for business activities. This type of advanced financial reporting is covered towards the end of our Learn MYOB 2 day course.

Advanced MYOB Tip:

Did you know MYOB accurately records how many days on average customers take to pay invoices you issue them? Look at the "History" Tab on any customer card to see this information.

Lets say you want to reward customers who consistently pay invoices early. Run the "Customer Payments [Closed Invoices] Report" and export the results to Excel.

You can now sort your customers into categories depending on how long they take to pay their bills, and hand out some rewards to your early paying customers!
