Three hours a week. That's all I've got set aside for building my own mini-course.

Not a clear day. Not a quiet week. Three hours, same slot in the diary, and everything else moves around them.

For a long time I waited for a clear week instead. I told myself I'd start properly once the client work eased off. It never eased off! That's not a complaint, it's just what a busy service business does.

What changed wasn't my workload. It was giving up on the idea that I needed a big run at it.

Three hours a week is twelve hours a month. It's a bit over 150 hours a year. That's a whole thing built, slowly, while the business keeps running.

The trap isn't that you don't have the time. It's that you're holding out for a shape of time that isn't coming.

So what would you start if you stopped waiting for a clear week? Tell me below, I'd love to know.

I've changed my mind about something this year.

I used to tell clients that getting found online was mostly a Google job. Now the first thing I check is what ChatGPT says when you ask it the question your customer would ask. "Who's a good bookkeeper in Wynnum?" That sort of thing.

Most of the time my client's name doesn't come up. And it's usually not because their website is bad.

What most people miss: AI tools don't rank you the way the old blue links did. They build an answer out of whatever is consistent and public about you. Your Google Business Profile. Your directory listings. Your own site saying plainly what you do and where you do it.

So if your website says "holistic wellbeing solutions", your Google profile says "massage therapist, Wynnum", and a directory still carries the address from two moves ago, there's nothing steady for an AI to hold onto. It names someone else instead.

Have a go today. Ask ChatGPT the question your favourite client would have asked before she found you.

💾 Save this and do it with a cuppa in the morning.

Then tell me in the comments who it named. I'm curious whether it was you.

What most people miss about getting found on Google: you can't rank a page you haven't written.

If you offer five services and all five live on one Services page with a short paragraph each, you've handed Google a single page and asked it to rank for five different things. It won't. It picks one, usually whatever you listed first, and quietly ignores the rest.

So the woman searching for the fourth thing on your list never sees you. Not because Google has anything against you. Because there's nothing specific to show her.

Here's what actually happens when each service gets its own page: Google gets something specific to match against a specific search, and your visitor lands on a page that's entirely about the thing she came for, instead of one paragraph she has to hunt for.

You don't have to do all five. Start with the service you most want more of, and give it a page of its own this month.

I spent years telling other people their website was talking about the wrong person. And guess what? Mine was doing exactly the same thing!

Everyone else's site always felt more urgent than my own. Client work first. My own services page whenever there was a gap, which there never was.

And when I finally sat down and read it properly, it was all "we". We offer. We specialise. We're passionate about delivering quality outcomes. All true. None of it about you.

So here's the count, and it takes five minutes. Open your services page. Count the sentences that start with "we". Then count the ones that start with "you", or that name the thing your client is actually lying awake worrying about.

If the "we" count wins, you've found it. You're describing your process. She's looking for hers.

The fix is quic one - look at your first three sentences. Flip them so they start where she is, not where you are.

💾 Save this for the next time you open your website:)

Your website ends more conversations than it starts.

A visitor lands, skims, doesn't see what they need in the first five seconds, and leaves — and you never even know they were there. Most of the time it's not the design. It's that the next step isn't obvious.

One clear action per page, not three buttons competing for attention. If someone only reads the headline, do they still know what to do next?

Is there something you've been meaning to do in your business for ages and just haven't got to?

I sat on adding social media management to my services list for years. Not because I wasn't doing it. Because everyone else's website always felt more urgent than my own. What actually shifted it was saying it out loud, in a room, to people who'd ask about it later - Susan Napper!

What's the thing you've been sitting on? Tell me below.

A client of mine picked up 65 new people on her list in one week.

Same offer, same audience, no ad spend, no new content plan. What changed was where and how she was asking people to join. We looked at every place someone could opt in and fixed the two that were quietly working against her.

Most list growth problems aren't a traffic problem. They're an "I didn't even notice I could sign up" problem.

Houndog Daycare's new website went live this month.

The thing about a dog daycare business is the trust factor. The person landing on your site is already interested in the service. What they haven't decided yet is whether they trust YOU with their dogs.

That's what this build had to do. Make dogs front and centre, while giving enough background on Angela and Leah to inspire trust.

A website that converts isn't the one that looks the nicest. It's the one that answers the question someone's actually asking, before they have to go looking for it.
