My first Murnong πŸ’› just picked this little baby and looking forward to eating it. Murnong (also known as Yam Daisy) was one of the most prominent foods of our region for thousands of years for the Wadawurrung people - like potatoes for the Irish - as someone once told me. It was wiped out within 4 years in the Ballarat area when the English, Irish and Europeans came with introduction cattle & sheep. Learn more grow more I say πŸ˜‰

Can you beelieve this adorable spotty blue bee is native to Australia!? It's a male Thyreus caeruleopunctatus and is one of the few native 'cuckoo' bees: the females will hang around a blue-banded bee's nest and when the mum isn't home, they dart in and put their own babes in the nest to enjoy a lovely cosy home to grow up in.

There are over 2000 species of native bees but compared to the beloved European honeybee, Apis mellifera, very little is known about them, even though they are prolific pollinators that keep our native ecosystem in check.
Want to see some adorably fuzzy bee butts IRL? To celebrate the launch of our 'Guide to native bees' we've written a blog just for you, with lots of mindblowing facts (like, did you know bees are basically just vegetarian wasps!?). https://blog.csiro.au/can-you-beelieve-our-guide-to-native-bees/
