The weather gods are really turning it on here in the Darling Downs Region!

These very determined, adorable little violas are growing along a crack in the cement amongst a couple of weeds.

Working from a different angle today for the last out of focus leaves and branches.

Two reasons for working upside down
#1- I'm less likely to smudge all the work I've already done, even when it's covered and protected.

#2 - I won't leave tiny specs of pencil dust all over the page.

I'm using a surface called pastelmat for this piece, it's a surface I use alot. It's a great surface to work with, as it can take ALOT of layers before the tooth of the paper is filled.
Sometimes you don't need many layers, other times it's is great for building up alot of depth and realism when needed.

So close to the finish line now! ☺️

I've been MIA for a bit due to a winter bug that caught me!!
I haven't been sick for a long time, so I can't complain. I'm not quite firing on all cylinders yet, but well enough to be back at my drawing desk.
So I'm back to finally finishing this King Parrot. A bit of tweaking left to do on his face and neck area, then I'll be on the home run!
What a messy eater he is... with pear all over his beak! 😄

NEW COLOURS!!! ✏️🩷🩵💚🧡❤️💛

FINALLY... Faber-Castell have released 20 new Polychromos colours! 🎉🎉

The 120 Polychromos Colour Pencil Sets were launched about 25 years ago, so these new colours are a long time coming and super exciting!

I'm thrilled about the lighter more pastel shades, as they fill some gaps in the current 120 set. They'll be very well utilised!

I just love Poly's, they are my absolute go to pencils! ❤️

Of course I love my Caran D'ache Pablos Luminance too, and have a variety of other brands Derwent Drawing, Lightfast, Prisma to name a few 🤪❤️

You just can't have too many pencils! It's a thing! 😝🤪😜🤣🤣

He's Got An Eye On You!! 👀

Here's the latest update on my King Parrot.
Yep, I couldn't help myself, I jumped ahead and started on the face. I felt compelled to give him sight 😂 Although his eyesight isn't quite finished, I'm working back towards the neck and body to get some shape to his head.
So, I'm a bit all of the place now! 😵‍💫😂
Although this update is a very short version of the hours spent, I always include not just the finished parts, but alot of the ugly stages.
Believe me, it looks ugly for a long time, to the point of second guessing my choices. 😅 Only after alot of layers, does it start to resemble something I was aiming for!
We're getting there one pencil stroke at a time!
