The new International Standard for Safety Management systems, ISO 45001:2018, is set to replace AS/NZS 4801:2001. AS/NZS 4801:2001 is still a legislated requirement of some businesses in Australia and will remain in force until this legislation is revoked by State Governments in the coming years, at this stage the set expiry date has been extended to 13/07/2023.
ISO 45001:2018 follows the same structure as ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 14001:2015, this means that it is easier than ever to develop your integrated management system that meets certification requirements. Key differences include:
路 Senior Management are now responsible for 13 responsibilities previously allocated to the Management Representative in AS/NZS 4801:2001.
路 Businesses will need to include documented procedures for topics such as management and training.
路 Organisations need to make additional commitments in their health and safety policy. One of the changes includes a commitment to eliminating all hazards and reducing OH&S risks.
路 Organisations need to identify risks and opportunities related to the making, operating, and maintaining the management system
路 Businesses are responsible for extending workplace health and safety procedures for contractors and other parties
There are instances where AS/NZS 4801:2001 is still called up in legislation/regulation and it will continue to be recognised for those schemes. As a courtesy to our clients, we will keep AS/NZS 4801:2001 until it expires at no additional cost once migrated over to ISO 45001:2018.
