“Security can’t do anything” is one of the most common things we hear, and it’s simply not true.

A licensed guard has real authority to direct people to leave private property and act on the owner’s behalf. The difference between a team that can and one that can’t usually comes down to two things: training and the right policies in place.

At Vigilant, our guards are trained to de-escalate first, act lawfully always, and work within the policies you set for your site. If you’ve ever been told security “can’t act,” you may have simply had the wrong provider.

Ever wondered what actually happens on a mobile security patrol? Here's how it works at Vigilant Security.

Our patrol officers are out across the Townsville region every single night, from early afternoon through to 6am, completing multiple runs to keep our clients' sites protected. If something comes up outside those hours, we're on call 24/7 on 1300 232 013.

At each site, we conduct perimeter checks, lock ups, unlocks, and inspect for any signs of damage, graffiti, needles, tampering or suspicious activity.

If something isn't right, we act on the spot. Whether that's moving someone on, securing an open door or documenting damage found on site.

When an incident occurs, your site contact is notified straight away. For minor matters you'll receive an email report. If the situation requires it, such as a break-in or significant incident, we will phone your contact directly, stay on site and wait until you or your representative arrives to clear us.

No news is good news. No report means your site was clear.

💡 Did you know your security cameras could be doing a lot more than just recording?

We redesigned the security setup for one of our clients, and cut their security bill significantly in the process.

They were running 24/7 security guards on site. Every hour, every day.

So we looked at the site and designed something smarter.

Our CCTV installer deployed a fully integrated 4K AI-enabled CCTV system covering every access point, every vulnerable zone, every corner of the site. AI trigger lines are programmed across the entire perimeter, this example image shows exactly what that looks like across 16 camera feeds. Every blue line is a detection zone. Cross one and the system reacts instantly.

The cameras aren't just watching. They have built-in lights and sirens that fire the moment a trigger line is crossed. Our security team receives an alert in real time, reviews the footage, and if there's a genuine threat, we respond immediately. If it's a goanna wandering through the site? Disregarded. No unnecessary call-out. No unnecessary cost.

We paired the monitoring with one daytime patrol and two overnight patrols and the client ended up with comprehensive, cost-effective coverage.

Smarter security doesn't mean less security. It means the right tools, monitored by the right people.

This book belonged to my Grandad who served in World War II. Eighty years on, the words inside still stop you in your tracks: ‘to be remembered for ever when occasion comes for word or deed.’ On this Anzac Day, Vigilant Security honours all who served and the families who keep their memory alive. Lest we forget. 🌹
