Hello friends & piano lovers. I've been forced into have a few weeks off work due to a minor surgery (all's going well now) plus the wheels go into the the panel be**er for ten days tomorrow (don't ask😄).
I'll be back on deck towards the end of April, early May, tuning & doing all sorts of minor & major repairs.
If the piano is sounding off or notes aren't working, don't put it off any longer. Give me a call & we can make a time to have a quick look together. Generally, a quote in the Tsv region is FOC.

Happy New Year to one and all. I hope 2026 has kicked off in the finest of Aussie fashions😄 Same as last year when we had a deluge from the heavens - it would be preferable to let the rain come and go before tuning pianos. Let the humidity and rain lessen some first.
Your tuning will last longer.

This is what's been happening in Martin's workshop over the last month or so. Sadly, this old Beale was left in the rain, veneer peeling, ivory key tops loose & falling off etc. The owner only wanted it to LOOK like it did before, he had very fond memories of the old Beale, even though he didn't play it. So, I replaced veneer on one side & the top. Polished with Gillies wax (A GREAT product-I highly recommend it), polished the brass & the pedals & the old Beale's good to go.
Hope the season has kicked off well for all.

Beale piano #41374, built between 1920 & 1921. This was a fun project. The outcome - a piano with a completely restored action, new key tops & key bed felt, new pedal trap work, outside cleaned & waxed, all brass work polished plus bench recovered.
The touch & tone is excellent.

This 100 year old Beale piano, lived in Ayr, North Qld for decades and is having a complete action rebuild plus some extras. Then it's being transported more than 1000kms away to Redcliffe.😊

All piano players, far & wide, HAPPY PIANO DAY.
This old piano was bought second hand by my Grandma for her girls back in the early 40s. I did some restoration work on it some years back & it sounds great.
Today is the 88th day of the year & the 10th anniversary of Piano Day.
Looking forward to all this wet weather pingin' off, too😄

Hello folks, considering the wet weather we're experiencing at the moment, I've had to postpone this weeks work. If it continues into next week, as it looks like it could, I'll do the same again.😞

The reason being is that your piano does not react all that well to lots of humidity. You may notice that the touch of your piano isn't the same as it was a couple of weeks ago. This is because humidity is absorbed by the timber & felts, making your piano seem heavier to play. You may also notice keys sticking. This is all fairly normal during this weather & in general, sorts itself out when the weather settles down. Timber swells during times of rain & high humidity & tuning suffers because of it.

In short, if you've got aircon (And let's face it, we all have😄) you should run it from time to time & also, if you've got a humidity control system in the piano, make sure it's plugged in & running.

Don't be fooled by another tuner telling you anything different.
