For those who missed the clue at Cotters on Sunday morning.... 7k cash if you find the truck thanks to Reef Recycling

03/09/2026

Dear Hunters,

We LOVE seeing everyone getting involved in the hunt, but please remember a few very important rules:

**DO NOT ENTER PRIVATE PROPERTY OR RESIDENCES.**
**DO NOT DAMAGE OR DISTURB FLORA OR FAUNA.**
**DO NOT DIG, CLIMB, CUT, MOVE OR DESTROY ANYTHING.**
The truck is hidden in a **PUBLIC LOCATION** and you will NOT need to damage anything to find it.

And just to save everyone some time… **IT IS NOT AT CLEVELAND TERRACE!**

We really, really want to give this money away, but if people aren't following the rules or are causing damage, we're going to have no choice but to end the game.

So please, hunt smart, respect the locations and leave everything exactly as you found it.
Let's find the truck, but not destroy Townsville in the process 😭

Can't say anything more, other than it isn't in a red crossed suburb. Good luck

Nobody works this out on their own. πŸ₯«

Think about it for a second. Somewhere back there, someone showed you that an empty was worth keeping. That you don't just chuck it. That there's a bag in the laundry and it goes in the bag.

Maybe it was a nan whose back room was more bag than room. A pop who physically could not drive past a bottle on the verge. A dad who'd load the trailer on a Saturday and take you along because you were small enough to fit in the gap. A teacher who put a bin beside the door and never made a fuss about it. πŸ’š

None of them thought they were teaching you anything. They were just doing what they did. And now you do it, and the kid in your back seat is watching you do it, and that's how it keeps going.

That's the whole thing, really. Not machines and not depots. Just people passing on a habit because someone passed it on to them. πŸ™Œ

So β€” who was it for you? Tell us in the comments. We'd genuinely love to know. πŸ‘‡

When you cash in, there's a two-second choice waiting for you. πŸͺ™

Most people take the refund and go β€” which is completely fine, that's exactly what the ten cents is for. Petrol, the shopping, a coffee on the way home. β˜•

The other way: any registered organisation can hold a scheme ID, and if there's one close to your heart, your refund goes and does its work there instead. Same containers, the same 10c on every eligible one. It just turns into something for somebody else. πŸ’š

No sign goes up. Nobody claps. You load the empties, say the word, and drive back out into the sun.

We don't pick who that someone is. You do. πŸ™Œ

Not sure how it works? Ask the crew when you're in β€” that's what they're there for.

Either way, way to go.

Here's one plenty of locals don't know. 🐠

The Great Barrier Reef is run from Townsville.

Not from Brisbane, not from Canberra. The Reef Authority β€” the mob who actually manage the whole Marine Park, all two thousand-odd kilometres of it β€” have their head office right here in town. Cairns and Yeppoon get regional offices. We get the head office.

And about 50km down the coast at Cape Ferguson sits the Australian Institute of Marine Science, with the National Sea Simulator, parked more or less next door to the middle of the Reef itself. πŸ”¬

So when people say Townsville is a Reef town, it's not tourism talk. This is where the work gets done. The people who look after the biggest living thing on the planet do the school run here, shop here, and complain about the parking here. πŸ’š

Which is a nice thing to sit with for a second. And it does make what ends up in our gutters feel a bit more personal than it might somewhere else.

Anyway. Bring your empties in whenever it suits β€” bags or loose, no sorting, we'll do the rest.

First day of spring. 🌱

Which makes today the official start of clean-out season β€” and you know exactly which corner we're talking about.

The one behind the door. Or beside the freezer. Or under the house, where the crate went "just for now" some time back in autumn and quietly started a family. πŸ₯«

Nothing wrong with it. Every house in Townsville has one. But it's a nice feeling to walk past that spot and see floor, and it's an even nicer feeling to get paid for the privilege.

So load it up whenever it suits you this week. Bags, boxes, crates, loose in the boot β€” doesn't matter how it arrives, there's nothing to sort at your end. The crew and the machines do all of that. πŸ’š

And if it's grown past what'll fit in the car β€” or you're just not in a position to be hauling it around β€” give us a ring on 1300 GO REEF and ask about a home pickup. We collect from homes across our Townsville service area, and the team can tell you how it works. 🚚

Clear the corner. Get the refund. Enjoy the floor.

Morning, Townsville. Last week of winter, and it's a big one. 🟒

The shed first: open every day, same as always. Eight to five through the week, eight to four Saturday and Sunday. No holidays, no closures, nothing to work around. πŸ•—

Then the weekend turns up and does all the heavy lifting.

Saturday's the last game of the Cowboys' season β€” Raiders at home, 5:30. Everything on it, in front of our own crowd, one more time. πŸ‰

And Sunday's Father's Day. πŸ’™

Which, if you're doing the sums, means you've got the whole week to sort out whatever the old man's getting β€” and a boot full of empties is a perfectly respectable way to fund it. He'd probably approve of that more than the socks, if we're honest.

So: come in whenever it suits this week. Bags, boxes, loose in the boot β€” no sorting, no fuss, the crew and the machines handle all of it. πŸ’š

Big week. Let's have it. πŸ’›πŸ’™
