DEBT IS PRESENTLY THE ONLY LEGACY THAT OUR STATE AND FEDERAL GOVERNMENTS ARE LEAVING US

'Sorry! Turns out we're going to go ahead with that controversial stadium after all - but it's going to make Queensland great!'

Ummmm, which part of Queensland will be great and which part will be paying for it?

We don't need another overpriced stadium. And we certainly don't need more of a system that funnels money out of one region to benefit another.

The legacy we so desperately need is a government that understands that PRODUCTIVITY is what creates prosperity for all.

The 7th State will be built on self-determination, innovation and sustainability. It will become a place where thriving communities shape their own future. It will be built on progress.

Not empty words and broken promises.
Not unnecessary and expensive infrastructure.
Not misguided policies and counterintuitive decision-making from bureaucrats and politicians who are literally too far away to understand our needs.

The 7th State is bold and brave and it's going to be a lot of hard work, but it's the solution we so desperately need and a legacy we can be proud of.

Luckily, we're not afraid of hard work.

CUT OFF FROM THE WORLD - WHEN INFRASTRUCTURE FAILED DURING THE 2025 FLOODS

We've been described as resilient many times over the years but when the going got tough, did our infrastructure pass the test?

Check out NQSA President Henry Fracchia's Letter to the Editor from the Townsville Bulletin on Monday:

Infrastructure woes

We live in a sunburnt country a land of sweeping plains, with rugged mountain ranges, which experiences droughts and flooding rains. In recent times, we in the North have certainly had our fair share of flooding rains. But have we had our fair share of reliable services during these times?

From any standpoint, it is difficult to comprehend the catastrophic loss of communications, the regional loss of power and the washing away of a bridge abutment on the national highway because of a rain event.

As the president of a North Queensland advocacy group, I am hearing from the membership a high level of agitation around the performance of our infrastructure. The question that is being asked is: Did our infrastructure in this event meet reasonable expectations?

The one thing that keeps being mentioned in dispatches is the loss of communications after about five hours. It seems to us, that no, our communication infrastructure did not meet a reasonable level of expectation.

As an engineer, I have reached out to colleagues in the industry, and they agree that communication systems, including towers should, be self-reliant for 48 hours or longer.

The extent of the failures and their causes behoves another question: What is the cause?

As a community, we rely on our systems of government to deliver the services we need.

Decisions at the senior level of government administration have failed.

The things that needed doing have not been done and it is not good enough. It’s unacceptable to have people in senior positions in government, paid an extraordinary amount of money, failing on so many levels the people they are charged to protect and serve. And to be clear, the failures are not an elected representative thing; this is a workings of government thing.

Individuals in government administration are answerable to the community through elected representatives parliament.

In light of the service failures there is a clear mandate for all our elected representatives to demand a review of the systems and government administration that have failed the people of the North.
