" This multi-media artwork portrays the centrality of the human being and thus our brain to the arts and technology curriculum.
The copied silhouetted human face in acrylics with chalk brain, represents the shared aim of the Australian Curriculum V 9 for the Arts and Technology, of fostering creativity and critical thinking toward our present and future.
The arts curriculum focuses on individual and cultural expression, thus I chose beautiful human images. I expressed the five diverse artforms (dance, drama, music, film/multi-media and visual) with enlarged faded out black and white sweeping images portraying the arts diminishing state in comparison to the colourful electric wires of technology. The arts images are cut in bold organic curves to represent the unique creative expression of emotion and empathy through the arts curriculum.
In stark contrast the technology curriculum focuses on the practicality of problem solving for our society. However, technology’s permeance threatens our very humanity which is represented by the technological cords interwoven in sharp binary squares through the mobile phone immersed in the human brain. I made the lines for technology sharp through precision cut holes representing the curriculum’s focus on systematic approaches.
Finally, the lights must come on for the arts. The arts light up our lives with music, dance, theatre, drama, film and writing. It is our artists, our designers our engineers who developed technology. However, in 2024, technology, through its sudden mobility and addiction, has reduced participation and attendance in the arts. The effect of this on our society is clear at every violent turn.
The lights must come on in the human brain. "
