This is my Artwork for my masters of Education - EDM 8006 - Arts & Technology. ( I don't pretend to be an artist - this is an assessment piece). although not marked on the artwork.
Artist Statement. ( any edits appreciated)
" This multi-media artwork portrays the centrality of the human being and thus our brain to the arts and technology curriculum.
The copied silhouetted human face in acrylics with chalk brain, represents the shared aim of the Australian Curriculum V 9 for the Arts and Technology, of fostering creativity and critical thinking toward our present and future.
The arts curriculum focuses on individual and cultural expression, thus I chose beautiful human images. I expressed the five diverse artforms (dance, drama, music, film/multi-media and visual) with enlarged faded out black and white sweeping images portraying the arts diminishing state in comparison to the colourful electric wires of technology. The arts images are cut in bold organic curves to represent the unique creative expression of emotion and empathy through the arts curriculum.
In stark contrast the technology curriculum focuses on the practicality of problem solving for our society. However, technology’s permeance threatens our very humanity which is represented by the technological cords interwoven in sharp binary squares through the mobile phone immersed in the human brain. I made the lines for technology sharp through precision cut holes representing the curriculum’s focus on systematic approaches.
Finally, the lights must come on for the arts. The arts light up our lives with music, dance, theatre, drama, film and writing. It is our artists, our designers our engineers who developed technology. However, in 2024, technology, through its sudden mobility and addiction, has reduced participation and attendance in the arts. The effect of this on our society is clear at every violent turn.
The lights must come on in the human brain. "

I would like to right now pay SERIOUS tribute to all the TEACHERS out there ! Whom, I believe, after a 3 week placement at beautiful Westend Primary school - should be paid $220 000 minimum, a year !
Quite frankly, if all primary school teachers are as professional and as committed to children's literacy - as Kristy Bailey, Grade 1 teacher at Westend Primary school - than, well - our kids are in good hands.
This was my placement. Here I was teaching a grade one class, in their first "Technology "class , taking them back 40 000 years ago to the first Australians and how life was without technology. ( minus, the sound system playing digeridoo)
Sad to see the Qld Education system slowly turning our teachers into administrators and record keepers of evidence. to prove their teaching. and just so much jam-packed curriculum, no time to synthesise information or discuss ... just ASSESS... ASSESS.. and mostly in writing.. little teaching in oratory education, which I believe is the only way to beat Artificial Intelligence. Verbal testing.
Speaking of curriculum - Imagine excel spread sheets being taught to Grade 2 students - criminal I say. Kids just can't be kids anymore.
I loved my 3 weeks at Westend Primary School. Only 120 students tucked in behind the new Private hospital on Ingham rd, corner there, up near the cemetery. A brilliant caring Principal and devoted teachers, stunning grounds and very polite children - always a good sign I say. If you're looking for a solid, caring Primary school - I could not promote Westend Primary more sincerely.

Those parents should be giving the teachers bonus's each week for the behaviour management that they are dealing with from most over-informed children these days - and the issue is global.

So here's an Easter toast to all our TEACHERS ! who are now .... psychologists, nutritionists, conflict managers, carers... let alone.. educators... administrators and protectors of academics who sit in their glass towers and have no idea what Principals and Teachers are dealing with day to day.
$220 000 pay increase to the teachers who raise the citizens of tomorrow !
