Soft Plastics: From Problem to Possibility

Soft plastics are one of the biggest challenges in kerbside recycling. Most programs can’t handle them and they often end up as contamination - costing councils $$.

At APR Kerbside, we accept soft plastics in our recycling system and work closely with councils to implement the approach that best suits their communities.

By tailoring solutions to local needs, we help councils reduce contamination, increase recovery rates, and make recycling simpler and easier for residents.

👉 Councils interested in expanding their kerbside capabilities we’d love to start the conversation. Talk to Marne Thorpe today.

Liquid Paper Board Cartons Accepted by APR Kerbside

Many councils still say no to cartons like milk or juice boxes but at APR Kerbside, we say yes please.

Why? Our facilities are equipped with a robot that picks them off the line so they can be recycled into new products.

It results in more options for residents to recycle and less valuable material lost to landfill.

When councils partner with APR, they can offer residents a broader recycling system with fewer restrictions and stronger results.

👉 Forward-thinking councils: is it time to expand what goes in your recycling bin? Talk to Marne Thorpe to find out more.

Landfill Costs Are Rising. Recycling Makes Sense.

The waste levy increase is a reminder that landfill isn’t just bad for the planet - it’s costly for households and councils too.

APR Kerbside is here to help. By accepting soft plastics and liquid paperboard directly in the kerbside bin, we’re making recycling easier, cheaper, and more effective.

Together, we can cut landfill, recover resources, and build a stronger circular economy for Victoria.

Keep batteries OUT of your kerbside bins

🔥 Batteries can catch fire in recycling trucks and facilities.

Please never place them in your kerbside recycling or general waste bins.

Instead, drop off household batteries at:
🔋 Bunnings
🔋 Officeworks
🔋 Your local supermarket
🔋 Your local council facility

It’s safer. It’s smarter. It’s better for the planet.

Where to recycle e-waste

Old phone? Dead toaster? Broken headphones?
These can’t go in your kerbside bin—but they can be recycled!

♻️ E-waste contains valuable materials like copper and aluminium—and some pretty toxic ones too.
Take your old electronics to a dedicated drop-off point like:
📍 Your local transfer station
📍 Officeworks (tech recycling)
📍 Council e-waste days

Let’s keep harmful materials out of landfill—and recover what can be reused.

Start small + recycle right

It’s Plastic Free July—and you don’t need to do it all at once.

Start small:
✅ Say no to pre-packed fruit & veg
✅ Bring your own containers to the deli or butcher
✅ Carry a reusable coffee cup or drink bottle

And for the soft plastics you can’t avoid?
💡 Save them at home and drop them off at your local soft plastics collection point for recycling.

Every small action adds up—to less waste, cleaner bins, and a better future. 🌏💚

⚠️ Vapes don’t belong in any household bin.

Vapes and e-cigarettes are hazardous and can cause fires if thrown into your recycling or rubbish bin.

These items contain lithium batteries, which are extremely dangerous when compacted in collection trucks or recycling facilities.

✅ Drop them at a hazardous waste or battery recycling site
✅ Never place in kerbside bins (rubbish or recycling)

Let’s keep our workers safe and our bins fire-free.

♻️ Love your bike, but not in the bin!

Bike tyres and tubes can’t be recycled in your kerbside bin. They're made of mixed materials and can damage recycling equipment.

We see far too many bike tyres turn up where they shouldn't — help us stop the contamination!

🚫 Not recyclable at kerbside
✅ Ask your local bike shop about tyre recycling
✅ Check for rubber-specific recycling drop-offs

Keep kerbside for the right stuff — and your tyres where they belong.

🚫 Keyboards don’t belong in your kerbside bin!

Electronic accessories like keyboards, mice, remote controls and cords can’t be recycled through your kerbside service — they’re considered e-waste and need to go to a dedicated drop-off location.

Putting e-waste in your recycling bin can cause contamination and disrupt the recycling process.

💡 Do the right thing:
✔️ Take e-waste to your nearest council drop-off
✔️ Check your local e-waste program
✔️ Keep kerbside recycling clean and efficient

Let’s keep recycling safe, sorted, and working properly.

Yes, you can recycle milk and juice cartons — here’s how it works.

Tetra Pak and similar cartons (also called liquid paperboard) often confuse people — they’re made of paper, plastic and sometimes aluminium. But through APR Kerbside, these items can be recycled and turned into something useful.

They’re processed into recycled packaging — helping reduce landfill and supporting manufacturing.

✅ Just give your cartons a quick rinse
✅ Flatten if you can (for space)
✅ Pop them in your yellow-lidded recycling bin

Recycling your cartons helps keep valuable resources in use and reduces the demand for virgin materials.

Better recycling starts at home — and we’re here to make it count.

⚠️ Keep batteries out of your bins — they’re dangerous when disposed of incorrectly.

Popping old batteries into your household rubbish or recycling bin might seem harmless, but it poses a serious fire and safety risk.

Batteries — especially lithium-ion types found in vapes, e-scooters, mobile phones, toys, remotes, and even greeting cards — can spark when crushed in trucks or at recycling facilities. This can cause fires that put workers and the community at risk.

🚫 Never put batteries or vapes in your red or yellow-lidded bins.

Instead:
✅ Drop them off at your nearest supermarket or council battery collection point
✅ Tape the terminals and store them safely until disposal
✅ Spread the word — most people don’t know the risk

APR Kerbside is working with local councils to help educate the community and reduce these risks. Safe disposal protects recycling workers, reduces fires, and keeps harmful chemicals out of landfill.

🔋 Small actions = big impact. Let's keep our bins — and our neighbours — safe.
