Removal of a Red belly black snake from a backyard in Mardi this morning who had doggies and a cat.
It’s spring, so snakes are on the move looking for food and a mate as it’s also breeding season for venomous snakes.
Be aware, your dogs will alert you to a snake by their bark, always check it out as you don’t want dog/snake interaction, as a lot of dogs get bitten.
You don’t have Eastern browns in Mardi, but a lot of red belly’s.
Keep your yards free of long grass, bushes, hedges, shrubs and agapanthus as snakes hide in them. Reduce ground cover in the yard as snakes like to remain hidden.
You can snake proof your yard by using rodent mesh. It comes in a roll 900 mm high and dig 100mm into the ground and affix the remaining to your fence.
It will stop snakes coming into your yard.
The mesh is 0.6mmx0.6 mm so will stop even small snakes.
Do not buy those snake repellers as they do not work. They attract snakes!
Monash University did a 2 year study on repellers and found they attracted snakes.

🐍 Happy World Snake Day! 🐍

Today we’re celebrating some of the most misunderstood and fascinating animals on our planet.

Snakes play an essential role in healthy ecosystems by helping to control rodent populations and maintaining the balance of nature. Despite their reputation, the vast majority of snakes would much rather avoid people than confront them.

Here in Australia we’re lucky to have an incredible diversity of snake species, each perfectly adapted to its environment. The best way to appreciate them is from a safe distance and to remember that every snake has an important job to do.

At our snake shows, we love helping people replace fear with understanding by sharing the amazing biology, behaviours and unique adaptations of these remarkable reptiles.

* They “smell” the world with their forked tongue.
* They don’t have eyelids, which is why they always look like they’re staring!

Release of Diamond Python from Wyoming today

We were called to a residence today at Wyoming, because the doggie alerted the resident to a really nice Diamond python in their yard. The resident called us and said the Diamond had gone behind their hot water service at the side of the home.
We arrived and found that there was a weep hole (rather large) behind the hot water service.
A search of the yard and a door to under the house. Armed with a torch we went under the house to find the really nice Diamond travelling from one side to the other side under the house.
Bagged and removed from the residence for the snakes safety due to a dog in the yard.

Teaching them not to harm them is great! A harmless way to get a snake out of their home.
Well done to the little girl. She will grow up respecting them and not killing them.

Diamond Python removal from a residence in Bensville, was due to the owners having Guinea pigs as pets.
This guy was perched above watching down on the empty Guinea pig enclosure as the residents remove the little furry friends when they noticed the Diamond camping above!
