THE GOOD LIFE AT NEST 🫖☕🎥🫐🥑📔

Arriving from Sydney, originally hailing from Wagga, Laura fell in love with Tumbarumba and a particular building with great potential. From the outset, Nest has always been about people gathering to enjoy the best things in life.

15 years, a husband and 3 kids later, Nest has become a shared vision, grown and sustained by their friends, staff, locals and visitors built on an ethos of showcasing local produce.

Fast forward to today, and the buzzing cafe is currently a cornucopia of last minute Christmas gift ideas from beautiful books, house made jams, Riverina Gin to The Ministry of Chocolate’s Raspberry Chocolate Jellies, you’ll be hard pressed not to consume them yourselves prior to gifting anything!

Or perhaps you can just treat your tastebuds to Nest’s annual baking offering of mince tarts, available in morning batches to enjoy with a coffee in the cafe, or as pre ordered gift tins for Christmas.

At Nest, you can also experience one of only a handful of single screen cinemas left in Australia. Once a dark Masonic lodge, now a boutique cinema and live music venue. Nest are opening the cinema for a screening Saturday 21 December of ‘The Polar Express’, $10 tickets include an ice cream treat, via https://cafe-nest.com/

Come share the good life at Nest, not your average cookie cutter cafe that’s for sure.

PS. Nest are hosting a Christmas Edition market on the lawns tomorrow Saturday 14 December showcasing local makers, growers and their wares! 🎁🎅🌲🎄🍎

TUMBA FOOTHILLS ARE ALIVE, WITH THE SOUND OF ZIPPERS, BUTTONS & FOOTWEAR

A truly family affair, Tumba Foothills has been in business coming up to 32 years next May. With business owner Deirdre and her daughter in charge of buying, disagreements are few these days, as to what will suit which customers. Deirdre has put many nieces through their paces in-store, and you can come and say hi to her granddaughter Ashley on a Saturday morning, whether you’re wanting to create an outfit, refresh a piece of clothing, or if you somehow lost your luggage – Tumba Foothills has what you need, and more!

A mix of a family clothing goods store and haberdashery, you will find sports bags, footwear, fascinators for a wedding or a race day, Rosdale Handkerchiefs PLUS an eclectic selection of zippers, buttons, yarn and fabrics. AND there is always a $5 rack to keep your budget in check.

If your new year’s resolution (and budget) might be to make a move towards a more eco-friendly circular approach to clothing, doing more with what you have, Tumba Foothills might be your go-to store to get into the swing of things in 2025 and beyond.

Make some time to pop in for a browse and some sewing inspiration, you never know what you might find for that jacket that could be given a makeover with some new buttons, some fabric and a pattern to make a new dress, or to start a patchwork project- it could be your new thing!

Tumba Foothills also offers mending and alterations services, and is an agent for dry cleaning to keep you looking sharp.

JOHANSEN WINES – GAMAY OR SPARKLING FOR YOUR CHRISTMAS TABLE?

Taking a break from the vineyard, Tom Southwell took a moment to chat about what Johansen Wines might be great on the Christmas table this year..

Their 2023 Gamay ‘The Alchemist’, is a fruit forward wine, that sits in oak. Fresh and juicy, featuring red berries, subtle spice, a touch of earthiness, and soft tannins it can be served slightly chilled, great for cool nights and warm days this summer, preserving the bright fruit flavours and natural acidity essential for Gamay.

OR if bubbles are more your thing, you might consider Johansen Wines’ Sparkling Cuvee 2021 Methodé Traditionelle, a refined blend of green apple and lemon curd, with a rich, creamy texture. With fine bubbles and crisp acidity creating an elegant finish and subtle hints of toasted brioche, perfect for pairing with oysters, scallops, and creamy cheeses like brie or camembert.

Jump online via www.johansenwines.com.au to stock up for the silly season and Christmas lunch/dinner, or pop over to their cellar door on the weekend.

Family-owned and operated, the Johansen Wines vineyard in Tumbarumba, captivates with its organic, vegan-friendly and award-winning cool climate wines.

Set inside of the original shearing shed the recently renovated space is a great space to learn all about what makes Tumbarumba wines so special, offering a stunning range of sparklings, riesling, chardonnay, gamay, pinot noir and more.

TUMBARUMBA POST OFFICE Delivering Christmas!

Recently celebrating their 18th anniversary operating Tumbarumba’s Post Office, Linda and Rob are the current custodians of the post office. The heritage building built in 1888 was reroofed, repainted and restored to its heritage colours, which the previous owners had painted blue.

You might be writing your Christmas cards and preparing packages to send across Australia or overseas, cut off dates are around 6 December (depending on which country) to reach their international destinations in time for Christmas Day.

If you need something extra to pop into your gift parcels, Linda and Rob have an eclectic mix of items including James Bond Coin sets, Bluey Christmas stamp sets, or Baby Coin sets to commemorate the year that a baby was born. The post office also offers children’s toys and books at great prices and good quality for birthdays or Christmas, to save you a drive to Wagga.

While you're at the post office, you can even treat yourself to an assortment of electrical goods such as mobile phones, 32” smart TV's perfectly sized for the bedroom, slow cookers, air fryers, sewing machines, or a robotic vacuum cleaner..

Pop in to get your mail and yourselves sorted!

TUMBA COTTAGES have 6 quaint country cottages in the heart of Tumbarumba, that have been lovingly renovated to create comfortable, affordable accommodation for families, groups or couples looking for a self catering accommodation option.

You might consider staying at their ‘1885’ cottage (pictured), built in 1885 as the warehouse for the general store during the gold rush, the structure has been converted into an apartment whilst keeping much of the history of the building in place. A large one bedroom with dividers to accommodate up to 4 people, ‘1885’ is located behind the main street of Tumbarumba, perfectly positioned to access all the best bits of town.

OR if you’re thinking about a family trip without breaking the budget over these summer holidays, Tumba Cottage’s ‘Breakaway’ would easily fit the bill with 3 bedrooms for up to 6 people that includes BBQ/outdoor setting and a good size garden for children to play.

Be sure to book well in advance to avoid disappointment - Tumba Cottages are fully booked out for the Tumbarumba Rodeo on New Year’s Day and during Tumbafest 2025, so start thinking for 2026 if you wanted to book to stay during those busy times!

TUMBARUMBA TO ROSEWOOD RAIL TRAIL

We love seeing more and more cyclists in our neck of the woods, as they take advantage of the Tumarumba to Rosewood Rail Trail - 21 kilometres of sealed trail with gentle gradients and sweeping curves that officially opened in 2020.

On the trail, heritage listed buildings and four restored bridges from the original Rail line, which are of significant historical importance, have been preserved in the reconstruction and refurbishment process including Mannus Creek Bridge, a seven span tall bridge which also features an inbuilt curve, a master piece of bridge building.

With Trailheads at Figures Street Tumbarumba, and at McEachern Lane in Rosewood, there are car parks at both ends of the trail, and facilities along the trail including bike tools, pump and picnic areas.

If you’re in town, forgot to pack your bike and are experiencing FOMO AND need a bike pronto, e-bike hire can be accessed at Ride Tumba, Tumba Bikes and Blooms, Rosewood Cafe & General Store, and Trio Bikes/Tumbarumba Rotary.

Don’t worry if you haven’t packed snacks for refuelling, make a mental note that the Rosewood Rail Trail Cafe & General Store, 1650 Wagga Road, Rosewood is open Monday - Saturday 9am until 5pm.
