Is your business ready for the 1 July salary threshold increases? 📈

The countdown has started, and failing to plan could jeopardise your next sponsorship! If you are bringing in talent under the Skills in Demand visa framework or other employer-sponsored pathways, it is time to review your payroll. With an expected 3.9% indexation linked to AWOTE data, the minimum salary thresholds are shifting.

Here are the projected 2026–27 figures you need to prepare for:
🔹 CSIT & TSMIT: $76,515 → $79,499
🔹 SSIT: $141,210 → $146,717

The strategic takeaway? A nomination is assessed against the threshold in force at the time of lodgement. If your current salary offers are sitting close to the line, submitting your applications before 1 July gives you a massive planning advantage.

Don't let a comfortable salary package turn into a compliance shortfall after indexation. Dive into our April blog post for a clear, actionable guide on navigating the Core Skills and Specialist Skills updates, and ensure your recruitment strategy stays ahead of the curve.

Visa approval is only the beginning! For approved standard business sponsors, compliance issues often arise not at the nomination stage but months later when the business changes—and no one tells immigration.

In our April blog post, we highlight a crucial but frequently missed requirement: sponsors must notify Home Affairs within 28 calendar days of specific business changes. Did you know that appointing a new director, changing your legal structure, or altering a sponsored worker’s employment all trigger notification obligations? Assuming that keeping the same ABN is enough is a common, and risky, mistake!

It’s vital to have an internal process ensuring your HR, payroll, finance, and company secretarial teams know exactly when a migration notification is required, especially for subclass 482 sponsors.

Ensure you are meeting your ongoing legal obligations, keeping accurate records, and avoiding prohibited cost recoveries. Read our full breakdown and access the Home Affairs compliance reference guide to keep your business fully compliant.

In our April blog post, we break down why LMT remains one of the most heavily scrutinised areas in employer-sponsored nominations. Case officers are looking closely at advertising dates, role descriptions, and documentary evidence—and treating this process as a mere formality is a common trap that can cause major roadblocks.

Whether it's ensuring your ads perfectly match the nominated role or navigating complex international trade exemptions, the details matter. Don't assume last year's advertising evidence can simply be reused!

LMT can be far more technical than employers expect, so we have prepared a factsheet to help businesses understand the advertising rules, timing requirements, and common pitfalls. Download it directly from the article to keep your sponsorships on track! 👇

The recent Federal Budget confirms an important message for Australian employers: skilled migration remains central to Australia’s workforce strategy.

While overall migration settings are tightening, the Government is continuing to prioritise skilled workers, with around 70% of the permanent Migration Program directed to the skills stream. For employers in trades, engineering, healthcare, science, agriculture, infrastructure, mining and regional industries, this matters. The skills shortage has not gone away. Many businesses are still struggling to find qualified workers locally, and delays in recruitment can directly affect projects, productivity, growth and service delivery.

The Budget also points to a more targeted and compliance-focused migration system, including investment in faster trade skills assessments and improved licensing pathways.

The key takeaway for employers is this: skilled migration is not closing. It is becoming more targeted.

If your business is facing long-term vacancies, regional recruitment challenges or a shortage of qualified tradespeople and technical staff, now is the time to consider whether employer-sponsored skilled migration should form part of your workforce strategy.
