There's more to w**d control than meets the eye! 🌱

Another day in the north of the state on quiet country roads for the G&T W**d Management crew, keeping a watchful eye out for invasive w**ds and protecting our rural landscapes.

Our keen w**d id uncovered a new serrated tussock infestation
(5 plants)and then reported to Agriculture Victoria.this was over 25 klm from the previous known patch.

Other various w**ds including cactus and Falx leaf broom were treated.
We then finished up along side a vineyard, tackling Chilean Needle Grass.

From discovering new infestations to getting on top of established w**ds it's being proactive, covering the ground, protecting our environment and agricultural land for the future.

Find it early, Control it effectively.

The G&T W**d Management crew recently headed to Falls alpine area to undertake targeted w**d control throughout the sensitive alpine environment.
English Broom, a very invasive w**d that is threatening to native vegetation and the natural balance of these unique alpine ecosystems has not been found ever before in the area.
Our keen G&T staff found after extensively searching 16 plants.
This Early detection will be essential to preventing further establishment and protecting these valuable landscapes for future generations.

Working across steep terrain and difficult-to-access remote areas, the G&T crew covered some challenging ground, scaling hillsides and navigating rugged country to locate and treat infestations.
This work goes beyond simply controlling w**ds.
it is about motivation, commitment of staff too protect native habitats and reducing the long-term environmental impact of invasive species.
G&T W**d Management remains committed to delivering practical, thorough and effective environmental protection of the natural values of Falls Creek and the surrounding alpine region

G&T W**d Management’s wildlife surveillance to gain a better understanding of animal activity, population movements and behaviour across landscapes.

Using strategically placed detection cameras we have upto date ongoing monitoring where we can identify the species present, determine where animals are travelling and establish when they are most active.

This information provides valuable insight into wildlife movements, helping us build a clearer picture of how animals use the landscape, access food and water sources, and move between areas of natural habitat and surrounding farmland.

Practical field experience an enables us too deliver more targeted, efficient outcomes for landholders and the environment.

G&T W**d Management continues to provide targeted feral pig control across Northern Victoria.
WE have been addressing the ongoing movement of feral pigs from state-managed land onto neighbouring private properties.
These incursions can cause significant damage to agricultural land and native vegetation creating ongoing management and biosecurity problems for landholders.
Our control’s requires regular monitoring and a coordinated approach to prevent populations from becoming established.
G&T W**d Management has the knowledge, equipment and field expertise required to respond to these ongoing incursions.
Our approach combines surveillance, strategic placement of detection cameras, targeted control methods and ongoing monitoring to identify pig activity and reduce numbers effectively. We work closely with landholders to understand the movement and behaviour of local pig populations allowing us to develop practical control programs that target the problem areas too provide ongoing protection for private land and surrounding agricultural and environmental assets.

Northern Victorian roadside invasive w**d control has kept us busy, with several days spent travelling slowly along country roads and backroads.
We have been actively searching for new and emerging w**d infestations.

Careful surveillance is essential to identify w**ds early, allowing us to target small outbreaks before they become established and spread further across the landscape.

The work takes us from foliage spraying depending on what we encounter along the way. Some infestations require targeted herbicide application, while others mean reaching for the chainsaw to remove invasive w**d trees.

It’s a varied and practical approach to roadside w**d management, with the goal of protecting native vegetation and keeping invasive species under control across Northern Victoria.

The end of the financial year marked the start of two months of holidays and now it’s time to get back into it.
G&T W**d Management kicked off with oxalis and serrated tussock control north of Melbourne before continuing our serrated tussock surveillance work across the north of the state.
It’s been a busy period, covering a range of locations and keeping a close eye on emerging w**d threats to ensure they are identified and managed early.

By the end of the week, the focus shifted to feral pig management with additional detection cameras deployed and free feeds set up to help monitor and identify pig movements.
It’s great to be back out in the field and getting stuck into the next round of work.

As the financial year came to a close, our team completed a range of important environmental management activities across the region.

Works included the removal of invasive olive trees along a section of High Conservation Road, followed by the installation of nesting boxes to provide replacement habitat for native wildlife.

The team also completed a spraying program for the water authority, with targeted feral goat control undertaken while on site.

Following recent feral pig management operations, monitoring equipment was serviced, including battery replacements, to support the ongoing monitoring of feral animal movements across the landscape.

These integrated management activities play an important role in protecting biodiversity, restoring habitat, and reducing the impacts of invasive species.

289 feral PIGS...read on

We first became aware of existence of a feral pig population during the summer while spraying w**ds adding a section of state forest and national park where we observed clear signs of feral pig activity.
Since then, we have implemented a coordinated control program using two feral pig traps, wildlife cameras to monitor activity, feral pig baiting, and ground shooting.
To date, we have trapped 21 feral pigs. Wildlife camera footage has confirmed that additional pigs have taken poisoned baits, including pregnant sows.
Examination of several trapped females showed they were carrying an average of 8–10 piglets each, all of which would likely have been born by now if the sows had not been removed.

Ground shooting has also accounted for several more pigs. Overall, we have removed trapped, shot poisoned 19 mature male pigs and 27 mature female pigs.

Based on an average litter size of nine piglets per female, the removal of these 27 breeding females represents the prevention of approximately 243 piglets from entering the population.

Combined with the 46 adult pigs removed, this equates to an estimated total impact of around 289 feral pigs.

289...re-read that 289 feral pigs

While this figure is an estimate, it highlights the substantial benefit of sustained feral pig control in reducing future population growth and limiting the damage.

Boom spraying across numerous pasture and lucerne paddocks over a few days this week, just ahead of a fabulous band of rain. We also managed a few early pig trap checks along the way.

The new LandCruiser carries 1,200 litres of water and can cover 15 hectares in just 45 minutes. Over the course of the week, we sprayed the equivalent area of 67 MCG ovals – a great effort before the welcome rain arrived.

Our exceptional understanding and best practice feral pig management
Have allowed us to both trap and apply poison ethically too 27 pigs in a week of work.
Our evidence of catch rates to significantly reduce the local feral population speaks volumes about our indepth understanding of the unique behaviour of feral pigs, being able to adapt to changes, read where the pigs will be on any given day as well as the commitment and logistics required to service the client.

We have 25 years of understanding pig movement and characteristics, are able to value add, providing solutions, various tools while dealing/interacting with our many inportant clients make us succeed.
