NDIS Update: Dog Guide Provider List

The National Disability Insurance Agency has launched a new Dog Guide Provider List on the NDIS website to help participants find and compare dog guide services.

The providers on this list meet key quality requirements, including NDIS registration and accreditation with the International Guide Dog Federation.

Participants can still choose any provider they prefer — the list is simply a tool to help make informed choices.

If you have dog guide funding in your plan, this new resource may help you explore available providers.

The NDIA has created a Dog Guide Provider List to give participants better access to dog guide services and clear provider information.

What Can I Actually Use My NDIS Funding For?

If you’re an NDIS participant, chances are you’ve asked yourself (or Google):

“What can I actually use my NDIS funding for?”

You’re not alone. The rules can feel confusing, and no one wants to accidentally use their funding the wrong way. The good news is that your NDIS funding is designed to support you — your goals, your independence, and your everyday life.

Let’s break it down:

The Key Rule: “Reasonable and Necessary”

NDIS funding can be used for supports that are considered reasonable and necessary.

This means the support:
• Relates directly to your disability
• Helps you achieve your goals
• Supports independence, daily living, or community participation
• Represents value for money
• Isn’t something that everyday living costs would normally cover
If a support meets these criteria and fits within your plan, it’s generally allowed.

NDIS update - Short term accommodation is now called short term respite.

The NDIS have updated the name to better reflect the purpose of the support. Which is, to give participants time apart from their usual care arrangements, while their primary informal supports take a short break. This support helps primary informal supports to continue in their caring role.
