Most of you know I ride Ducati 800 Monster and love cornering at speed. Yet, some journeys take awhile to arrive at your destination, like certain academic qualifications.

Last year I achieved the Graduate Diploma of Strategic Leadership with Churchill Education, a great RTO that I highly recommend.

Recently, I sat down for an interview with Leonie from Churchill Education. Leonie was terrific, drawing me out to share some of the personal drivers that compel me forward in leading change, eliminating fear, maximising talent and accepting responsibility.

Whatever age you are or season you’re next, take some time to pause, reflect and celebrate your achievements.

Here’s a little of my story…

This is a shout out to the amazing people working in Local Government and particularly to the colleagues I’ve had the privilege of working with at City of Gold Coast in my role as Strategic Workforce Change and Engagement Coordinator within People & Culture.

A big thankyou to the crew who I worked with throughout this time and the multitude of difference makers that are championing change and leading by example.

✅To the 106 dedicated change champions I trained up to support 4,500 employees
✅To the leaders and sponsors who released their people and realised the benefits to be gained by consulting, collaborating and transitioning people through the change cycle
✅To the City workforce I was trusted to guide through the COVID Change Curves through rapid workshop design and delivery
✅To the BITs team that have underpinned connection and the Procurement Team that partnered with us to engage PROSCI® as the City enterprise people change management solution

And to the pod buddies, advocates and the change adopters and resistors, the finance team, the workplace relations, learning and development, payroll, systems and governance teams and business partners, thanks for a fantastic ride!

So what’s next?

I’m opening up the booking sheets for new consultancies, contracts and leading change coaching opportunities, blended with some upcoming June Keynotes in Brisbane.

And so it begins, this bold new year. The chiming of the clock, the glow of fireworks, the turning of the calendar.

What if we chose to make this year count in fresh new ways?

Here’s to being BOLD!

Clique: A french word meaning ‘a group of like-minded people coming together around a common cause’.

And so here we are, encouraging each other and building our own tradition.

We are believing for the best and planning for the worst. We are discussing so many things and standing on our values with soft hearts and firm conviction.

Friends like family. Family like friends.

There’s something about the smell of the Australian country. Away from the City, the noise is different, the air while clear has a tang that at this time of year signals the onset of the Christmas season. You just want to breathe deeply and let the cinnamon dust fill your senses.

We drove out to Toowoomba Friday night to stay with our dear friends Jill and Grant Abraham. Awesome hosts and nice weekend break away from work.

Over the past 2.5 years my professional focus has been on helping leaders lead through change and hasn’t there been a lot of that? The past 18 months in particular we’ve all felt the effects of COVID fatigue and ‘change saturation’.

And yet…

At a recent 90 min workshop I reminded participants we’ve always been changing. Individually. As a society. We’re born. We live our dash. We die.

How we live matters. Our integrity. Our boldness. Our tenacity, conviction, humility and perseverance. Our response to pressure, our transparency, our commitment to each other - it all plays a significant part in our contribution and our joy. We don’t have to agree to be in unity.

This weekend we took a trip to Pioneer Village, Highfields with Jill and Grant. The shared story of our lives is etched in the wood and the echoes of the past. Fingers brush woodwork, fabric and stone.

Eyes glimpse letters of history and linger on love’s accounts of family and fortunes won and lost. Snippets of history, faithfully recorded and preserved by families and volunteers.

Time stands still for no man.

Do not grow weary in doing good.

Stay connected to faith and values, look warmly on the past, for all who have endured so much so we can ‘be’ right where we are.

We are custodians of the dash.
