The asparagus patch is waking up!

There’s something ridiculously satisfying about spotting those first spears pushing through the soil — particularly knowing that an established asparagus bed can keep producing for years.

This batch: strawberry kombucha.

After the last mango batch was a little too subtle, I may have been rather more generous with the strawberry this time. 😂

Now we wait for the fizz.

If only I could bottle the smell of this. 🍊🌼

The citrus is absolutely covered in blossom.

It’s one of those tiny signs of spring that makes you stop whatever you’re doing and just stand underneath it for a minute.

And judging by all those flowers, we may have another very busy preserving season ahead of us.

Yesterday’s sourdough, today’s pantry staples. 🍞

A stale homemade loaf is far too good for the bin.

So today it became crunchy croutons and a batch of breadcrumbs for the pantry.

One of my favourite things about this way of living is finding another use for what we already have.

Send help. The mint has escaped. 🌿😂

The mint — and particularly the Vietnamese mint — has apparently decided that the entire garden belongs to it.

So this weekend’s challenge is less “how do we grow mint?” and more “how many ways can we possibly preserve and use it?”

Drying, syrups, teas and plenty of experimenting ahead.

Not the only ones keeping an eye on the farm today… 🦅

We spotted this magnificent visitor overhead.

One of the things I love about being out here is never quite knowing what will appear next — although I suspect the chickens would prefer this particular visitor kept its distance.

So naturally, I harvested them. 🌹

Basketfuls of rose petals from the garden are now being dried for the pantry and apothecary cupboard.

Some are in the dehydrator, some drying naturally — and because apparently I’ve reached the point where one dehydrator is no longer enough, the outdoor dryer has been called into service too. 😂

Nothing this beautiful is going to waste.
