As part of our 12-monthly Preventative Maintenance Service, we regularly come across pests such as bugs, cockroaches and even mice hiding inside customers’ machines. Aside from being unpleasant, these infestations can cause serious damage and safety risks.

☕ My favourite plant — coffee

Most of us know coffee as the brown beans that eventually end up in the grinder, but it starts life looking very different.

Coffee grows as a fruit — a bright red coffee cherry.

Peel that cherry apart and there are several layers protecting what we eventually call the coffee bean: the outer skin, soft pulp, sticky mucilage, parchment and a thin silver skin. Right in the middle is the prize — the coffee seed.

And yes, technically the “bean” is actually a seed. ☕🌱

Coffee can be a bit fussy about where it lives. It likes warm, humid, frost-free conditions, regular moisture but good drainage, and protection from harsh sun and wind. Depending on the variety and climate, it can also appreciate some shade.
