CNC Milling and Turning

Our highly skilled and experienced team in the CNC milling and turning area can produce parts to meet your needs. No part is too big or too small. Our manual machining area is used for tasks including secondary ops, short-run part modifications, and geometrically simple production parts.

Computer Numeric Control (CNC) uses computers to create extremely precise cuts, angles, and designs into metals and plastics. The cuts and designs achieved using CNC exceed human capability producing machined parts at the absolute highest level of accuracy. Highly-talented engineers oversee the entire process for a flawless final product.

While some manufacturing processes create designs by adding materials together, the CNC process removes excess material from a larger block to reveal the design within. This reductive process can be performed using one of two CNC machining processes: CNC Milling and CNC Turning.

Depending on your needs, your project may call for CNC turning or CNC milling.

CNC Milling

Beginning with a solid piece of raw material, cuts are made at precise angles until the final product has been removed of all excess material for an extremely accurate representation of your design in metal, alloy, or plastic. Material waste is kept to the absolute minimum, eliminating waste and reducing production time. Complex designs are more than welcome – they are invited!

CNC Turning

CNC turning is a simple, fast, and repeatable manufacturing process using a lathe to strip away excess material creating cuts, holes, and grooves with extreme accuracy.

Your design will determine which CNC process can best deliver the results you need. If you not sure which processes your parts should be made by CNC milling or cnc turning. You can contact our team and we will help you on this.

The quality of goods produced for our clients either individually or collaboratively is testament to the capability of the XL group.

When you choose to work with XL Engineered on your project, you know you will receive the very best result, carried out by an experienced team of professionals.

Turret Punching
Punching, and press work in general, is a process well suited to mass production. However the initial tooling costs, of both the machine and the job-specific press tool, are high. This limits punch work from being used for much small-volume and prototype work.

A turret punch is one way of addressing this cost. The tooling of a turret punch uses a large number of standard punch tools: holes of varying sizes, straight edges, commonly-used notches or mounting holes. By using a large number of strokes, with several different tools in turn, a turret press may make a wide variety of parts without having to first make a specialised press tool for that task. This saves both time and money, allowing rapid prototyping or for low volume production to start without tooling delays.

Bending and folding

Here at XL we utilise a range of high end equipment. For our nbending process we use both a Salvagnini P2lean panel bender and a Salvagnini P2Xe folding machine.

P2lean is the ultimate panel bender able to efficiently produce a large variety of parts. Totally automatic, it guarantees that the first part is a good part. This Salvagnini has a wide variety of capabilities including an automatic tool changer, Mac 2.0 – material attitude correction, and electric driven actuators. The new machine has upper and lower bend blades that will allow bends from -135 to +135 degrees in a single step.

Our Salvagnini P2Xe folding machine allows us to make parts faster, cheaper and better than every before. This machine is supported by an army of computer controlled laser-cutters, welding robots and break-presses. But none of that technology is worth a hoot without smart and well trained people to run it all.
