A bio economy series!
$30 Billion. Thatโs the number on the table. ๐ฐ๐ฆ๐บ
According to CSIRO and Main Sequence Ventures, Australia has the potential to build a synthetic biology industry worth $30B/year and create 50,000+ jobs by 2040.
We have the world-class research to do it. ๐ฌ We have the pilots. โ๏ธ
But to unlock that $30B, we need to solve one thing: Scale.
We are currently under-building the "middle layer"- the demo plants and pre-commercial facilities that turn a lab breakthrough into a regional industry.
If we don't build it here, the IP goes offshore, and we end up buying back our own inventions.
๐ We want to know your take: If the government backed ONE lever to fix this, what should it be?
1๏ธโฃ Infrastructure (Shared scale-up facilities)
2๏ธโฃ Procurement (Guaranteed government buying)
3๏ธโฃ Capital (Patient investment)
4๏ธโฃ Skills (Workforce training)
