Switch off for Shearwaters 15 April to 10 May 2026
The resident Short-tailed Shearwater colony on Griffiths Island, Port Fairy is preparing to make their annual 15,000km migration to the Northern Hemisphere this month.

At only 3 months old, the young fledglings are easily disoriented by artificial light, which can cause them to become grounded and vulnerable within the township of Port Fairy.

We are asking Port Fairy residents to help give them the best chance by:

- Turning off unnecessary outdoor lighting at night.
- Driving carefully around Ocean Drive, Griffiths Island and Martins Point.
- Keeping cats indoors overnight to reduce predation.
