Tim and Cass McNeil purchased their picturesque 40-acre property at Watervale in 2007 and in the same year released the inaugural ‘Tim McNeil’ wines. Tim, who was a Physical Education teacher in a former life, graduated from Adelaide University with an Oenology degree in 1999 and spent 11 years honing his craft at iconic wineries in the Barossa and Clare Valley. A 5-acre Riesling vineyard on the p
roperty has flourished under Tim’s careful attention, transformed from un-trellised bush vines with hundreds of missing plants to a fully-planted and trellised vineyard. The hand-pruned, handpicked, dry grown vineyard is now fully productive and the results can be seen in all of the Rieslings produced from 2010 onwards. Tim McNeil Premium Range
Tim has produced a range of premium wines that reflect the magnificent conditions of rainfall, temperature, elevation and terroir in the Clare Valley. Key varietals of Riesling and Shiraz are part of the stable with a fine and delicate Reserve Riesling showing the class of the region. With gold medals for the 2008 and 2010 Shiraz at the 2012 Clare Valley Regional Wines Show and a trophy at the 2011 Clare Valley Wine Show for the outstanding 2010 Watervale Riesling, the current and future vintages are in good stead. On the Wing Range
2013 has seen the introduction of the On The Wing range of wines. This name comes from Tim's hey days in the late 80s as a young footballer sporting a blonde mullet, playing on the wing for the mighty Norwood Redlegs. Long since retirement himself, Tim’s involvement with his sons’ football has revived these memorable times of mateship and teamwork to inspire this range. Whether you drink these wines on the wing of a mate or on the wing of your favourite dish - enjoy! On The Wing range includes a Clare Valley Shiraz with Tim's usual stamp of full bodied flavour along with notes of pepper and spice. The Watervale Riesling is a medium dry wine with luscious fruits of lychees and grapefruit which is perfect on the wing of Asian or Italian-inspired foods. Cellar Door
In 2012 Tim McNeil Wines opened a Cellar Door facility overlooking the scenic vineyard. At nearly 500m above sea level, it is easy to be lost in the panoramic views of the Watervale surrounds and beyond. Cellar Door is open Saturday, Sunday and Public Holidays 11.00am - 5.00pm. Tim often opens cellar door on weekdays while working in the vineyard or cellar, so just look out for the roadside "OPEN" sign or give him a call to make a time to visit. Tim, Cass and sons Lachie, Bodie and Cooper look forward to seeing you and showing you our special piece of the Clare Valley.
