Earlier this year, our team attended the Banksia Beach State School NAIDOC Parade on Bribie Island, joining students, families and community members in celebrating Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, histories and stories.

As a 100% Aboriginal-owned business, opportunities to come together, share culture and strengthen community connections are especially meaningful to our team.

Thank you to the Banksia Beach State School community for the warm welcome and for including us in such a special day.

As Hicks continues to strengthen its connections in Queensland, we look forward to listening, learning and building genuine relationships within the local community.

Peter Hicks recently travelled to Kalgoorlie for the Diggers & Dealers Mining Forum, listening to speakers from different areas of mining and hearing what’s being talked about across the industry.

Running a civil and mining business means a lot of our time is spent focused on the work in front of us, our crews and the projects we’re delivering. But there’s always a lot happening across the wider industry too, and stepping outside of our own corner for a few days gives us a chance to hear what others are seeing, working through and planning for.

And when you’ve spent a fair few years in the industry, there are always a few people to catch up with along the way!

Today we’re celebrating 16 years of Hicks Civil & Mining.

What began around a dining room table, with Peter Hicks’ vision to create greater Aboriginal participation in industry, has grown into something our family is incredibly proud of.

There’s a lot behind 16 years in business. Big decisions, long days, challenges, opportunities, lessons learnt and plenty of hard work from a lot of people along the way.

Through all of that growth, our people, our community and creating meaningful opportunities for the next generation have remained at the heart of Hicks.

And none of it happens alone.

To every team member who has pulled on a Hicks shirt, every family member who has supported from behind the scenes, every client, contractor and supplier who has backed us, and the communities that have supported Hicks along the way, thank you.

You’re all part of this story.

16 years of Hicks Civil & Mining, and plenty more still to come 👏

A very happy birthday to our Founder, Lisa, who celebrated a special milestone yesterday 🥳

Lisa has been part of the Hicks journey from the very beginning, helping shape the business alongside her family and playing an important role in the story of Hicks.

She brings so much care to the people around her, both within the business and the wider community.

From all of us at Hicks, happy birthday Lisa. We hope you had a beautiful day celebrating with family and loved ones.

Hicks Civil & Mining is expanding into Queensland!

For us, this is more than a new location. It reflects the work that has been happening behind the scenes for years.

Building the team.
Strengthening our systems.
Investing in people.
Backing local employment.
Growing our capability without losing the way Hicks has always worked.

From the Pilbara to Queensland, this next step has been earned through years of hard work, strong people and a team that has kept backing the business.

This growth is not about moving away from where Hicks started. It is about building on it.

“The heart of Hicks stays the same: family, backing our people and staying connected to the values the business was built on,” Lisa Hicks.

Queensland gives Hicks a stronger base to support more work, create more opportunities for the team and continue building from the foundations already in place 👏🏽

We’re excited for this next chapter and proud of what it says about the team behind the business.

Behind every strong project outcome are people who put in the work to get it there.

This week, we wanted to recognise Farhan Husain, Project Manager, and Peter for their support on one of our recent projects in Port Hedland.

Their work played an important role in helping support the commercial recovery of the project, bringing focus, care and practical thinking to a challenging piece of work.

At Hicks, these are the kinds of efforts that often happen quietly in the background, but they make a real difference to the strength of a project and the team around it.

Thank you, Farhan, and Peter for your commitment, professionalism and support.
