Masks combined with other precautions, such as physical distancing and good hand hygiene, reduces your risk of becoming infected with COVID-19.

One way COVID-19 spreads is through droplets. These droplets can enter your body through your eyes, nose and mouth, providing a direct pathway to your throat and lungs.

This is why it is important to make sure your mask is covering both your nose and mouth.

If masks were to be removed as part of our COVID-Ready Plan, expert modelling states:
• a 64% chance of outbreak (compared to 27% with masks)
• a 3% chance of exceeding ward capacity in our hospitals (compared to less than 1% with masks)
• a 20% chance of exceeding ICU capacity in our hospitals (compared to less than 1% with masks)
• predicted up to 186 deaths (compared to predicted up to 51 with masks).
