Meet Rebecca Young, a 12-year-old student from Kelvinside Academy in Glasgow, who has ingeniously designed a solar-powered heated blanket to help those experiencing homelessness.

Inspired by witnessing individuals sleeping rough on Glasgow's streets, Rebecca envisioned a solution that combines compassion with innovation. Her design integrates a heated blanket into a backpack, powered by solar panels, ensuring portability and warmth without reliance on external power sources.

Rebecca's creation earned her the MacRobert Commendation Medal in the UK-wide Primary Engineer competition, standing out among 70,000 entries. Engineering firm Thales brought her concept to life, developing a prototype that not only provides warmth but also offers additional storage space.

Rebecca shared her motivation: "Unfortunately, you see so many people sleeping rough on the streets of Glasgow, and I always felt bad seeing how cold they were. It was obvious to me that this could help."

Her story exemplifies how empathy and creativity can drive meaningful change. Let's celebrate young minds making a difference! 💡❤️
