The Australian Automobile Association (AAA), along with partner Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA), commissioned ABMARC to analyze the impact of a software "recall fix" on a VW vehicle. Real world testing was conducted before and after the implementation of the recall fix.

It was determined that:
- The recall fix did not detrimentally impact vehicle performance. A slight increased in power and torque was observed post fix.
- The real world warm start average fuel consumption was 7% higher after the recall fix was applied, at 1.26 times the official figures (up from 1.18 times the official figures pre-recall).
- The pre-recall real world average NOx emissions were 6.71 times the laboratory limit.
- The real world NOx emissions were reduced by 41% when comparing warm tests. However, the NOx emissions were still 4.11 times the laboratory limit after the recall when tested under real world driving conditions.
- Real world CO and PM emissions were below the laboratory limit pre- and post-recall. No significant change was measured in the CO emissions.
- The real world PM results decreased by 33% post recall, although the PM was very low pre- and post-recall at less than 0.1 mg/km.

The California DMV has just released the 2017 autonomous vehicle disengagement reports.
We've charted the miles traveled per disengagement and the results are fascinating - Waymo is the clear leader, with GM Cruise following fairly closely. (In case you missed it - the y-axis is set to a log10 scale!).
It should be noted that these reports only cover tests conducted on public roads in California, so the chart doesn't provide insight into the status of companies testing on private property in California, or in other US States (and / or countries).

The ACCC has released the final report from its 18 month market study on the new car retailing industry.
Their key observations are:
- car manufacturers need to update their complaint handling systems and improve their approach to the handling of consumer guarantee claims
- a mandatory scheme should be introduced for car manufacturers to share technical information with independent repairers
- new car buyers need more accurate information about their cars’ fuel consumption and emissions.

The ACCC drew on ABMARC's submission to the study, as well as ABMARC's work for the AAA's "Welcome to the Real World" project.
