Saeda Bahadur runs Melwest Eco Energy, an accredited retailer for hot water, air conditioning, and solar systems, from Suite 9 at Westend Business Hub.

A year ago she made a call a lot of business owners avoid: she downsized from a full warehouse in Hoppers Crossing into a coworking suite on Watton Street. Not because the business got smaller, but because being close to her clients turned out to matter more than square metres.

In her own words:

"I have a great experience working here because all of my clients and the people I want to meet know where the place is. I'm so glad I can live, work, and volunteer close by."

That's the trade a lot of local business owners don't realise they're allowed to make. Less space, more proximity. Lower overheads, higher visibility. A workday that still leaves room for the school run.

A great start to the Wyndham Learning Festival at Westend Business Hub!

Six years ago, Westend Business Hub was an idea on a whiteboard: a coworking space in Werribee built by locals, for locals.

Last week, that idea became a finalist in the 2026 Wyndham Business Awards.

I want to be clear about who this belongs to. It is not a "we built a nice office" story. It is a Mohanish Roychand story, an Amit Slaria story, an Amaal Gabose story, a Syed Khander story, and every founder who has walked in here with a laptop and an idea and walked out with a client, a referral, or the confidence to keep going.

Coworking spaces get judged on desks and wifi. What actually gets judged in an awards process is whether a business changed the trajectory of the people around it. Whether it built something the community actually needed.

Being a finalist tells me Wyndham agrees that what we're building here, in the west, matters as much as anything happening in the CBD.

The result is still to come. But the recognition already changes something: it tells every business owner in Werribee, Point Cook, Tarneit, and Wyndham Vale that world class doesn't require leaving the west to find it.
