Engineers at XCMG, the Chinese state-owned machinery group, have teamed with Fortescue Metals to replace the Australian miner’s diesel-powered machinery fleet.

This is what the next generation of mining equipment could look like.

Our battery electric prototypes, built with XCMG Group, are being put through their paces in China by our teams who’ll work with them on site.

The feedback so far? Powerful, responsive, quieter and smoother than diesel. 💪⚡️

Next stop: the Pilbara, where we’ll continue testing and refining the technology that will help reshape mining by 2030.

Steelmaking is one of the world’s biggest emissions challenges. Finding a way to slash those emissions won’t be easy, but this is a massive first step. And it’s happening right here. 💚

We’ve produced our first ever hot metal! 👏

Our Green Metal Project at Christmas Creek has successfully produced molten metal in its electric smelting furnace, marking a major step towards producing green iron in Australia. 🇦🇺

The steel industry is responsible for more than 8% of global emissions, so finding a way to make green iron at scale is key to bringing that number down.

Nobody has yet solved green iron production using Pilbara ore at commercial scale. That’s the challenge we’re taking on. 💪

Big blades, even bigger journey. 💪

We’re transporting these beasts 300 kilometres from Port Hedland to Nullagine, where we’re building a 133MW wind farm to help power our operations with renewable energy. ⚡️

With the second vessel now in port carrying the next set of parts, the operation is gathering pace.

Let’s keep this moving, NABRAWIND and Envision.
