Critical minerals are becoming increasingly important to economic resilience, energy security and the technologies shaping our future and vanadium is firmly part of that conversation.

For Australian Vanadium Limited, this is at the heart of what we are building: an integrated Australian vanadium business spanning resource development, processing, electrolyte manufacturing and vanadium flow battery deployment through VSUN Energy.

From strengthening high-performance steels to enabling long-duration energy storage, vanadium has an important role to play across multiple strategic industries.

As governments around the world focus on securing critical mineral supply chains, Australia has an opportunity to build sovereign capability and capture more value from its own resources.

Watch this video From Vanitec to learn why vanadium is more than a mineral, it’s critical to what comes next.

It’s national NAIDOC Week when celebrations are held across Australia to celebrate and recognise the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. It is an opportunity for all Australians to learn about First Nations cultures and histories and participate in celebrations of the oldest, continuous living cultures on earth.

For five decades, NAIDOC Week has celebrated the voices of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people communities, steady, unapologetic, and proud.

This year’s theme Fifty Years of Deadly marks a milestone. It’s a tribute to the people who built this movement. The Elders who stood firm, the organisers who made space, the artists who turned resistance into expression, and the communities who keep showing up, year after year.

At AVL we respect and acknowledge the past, present and future Traditional Custodians and Elders of the lands on which we operate. We recognise the continuation of cultural, spiritual and educational practices of First Nations people and commit to working together to build a brighter future for all.

Supporting education and workforce development in the Mid West is something Australian Vanadium Limited is proud to be part of each year through our partnership with the Geraldton Universities Centre - GUC's Hollomby Foundation Scholarships.

Named in honour of the late Joe Hollomby, the program helps local students access tertiary education while remaining in their community, supporting the development of skills that strengthen regional and remote workforces.

As part of our ongoing commitment, AVL provides two annual "Enhancing our Rural Workforce" scholarships to students studying in fields that will contribute to the future capability of regional communities.

In 2026, the Australian Vanadium Hollomby Foundation Scholarships were awarded to Mirranda Knight who is studying a Bachelor of Nursing and Louise Collard who is undertaking a Bachelor of Education.

Congratulations to both recipients. We are proud to support the next generation of professionals helping to build stronger regional communities.

Australian Vanadium Limited was pleased to host Yasuji Komiyama, Director-General for Trade Policy and Economic Cooperation, and Mutsumi Takagi, Assistant Director Asia and Pacific Division, of Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry(METI), along with Arata DOI, General Manager Sumitomo Electric Industries, at our West Perth offices and vanadium electrolyte manufacturing facility.

AVL deeply values the ongoing opportunity to engage with METI as we advance opportunities including the Kalgoorlie VBESS EOI, and other project opportunities across Australasia.

Japan and Western Australia share a long-standing and deeply integrated economic relationship built over decades of collaboration in resources, energy, and industrial development. Japan has been a cornerstone partner in WA’s growth story, with enduring investment and offtake partnerships spanning iron ore, LNG, and minerals. This trusted relationship provides a strong foundation for the next phase of Japan and Western Australian cooperation, particularly in energy transition technologies such as vanadium flow batteries.

AVL CEO Graham Arvidson recently visited South Korea as part of an Austrade Critical Minerals Delegation, reinforcing Australia’s role as a trusted partner in the global energy transition.

The visit included a meeting with the Australian Ambassador to Korea and key government organisations such as Korea Mine Rehabilitation and Mineral Resources Corp.(KOMIR), highlighting the growing importance of collaboration across the critical minerals supply chain.

Graham also joined the Australia Battery Supply Chain delegation at InterBattery 2026, one of the world’s leading battery industry events, connecting with global leaders across technology, manufacturing and deployment.

Across the week, AVL met with a range of potential Korean partners, with discussions spanning funding, offtake, technology and services collaboration all aligned to advancing AVL’s vertically integrated ‘pit-to-battery’ strategy.

These engagements continue to build momentum as AVL expands its international partnerships and positions itself within the global vanadium and energy storage ecosystem.

Australian Vanadium Limited and its wholly owned subsidiary VSUN Energy were pleased to mark the signing of a pre-bid agreement with Sumitomo Electric Industries, with AVL CEO Graham Arvidson and Sumitomo’s General Manager, Redox Flow Battery Division, Mr Kazuyuki Kamada coming together for the occasion.

This agreement brings together Sumitomo Electric’s globally proven vanadium flow battery technology with AVL’s vertically integrated Australian vanadium supply chain, strengthening VSUN Energy’s bid for the WA Government’s proposed Kalgoorlie Vanadium Battery Energy Storage System.

It reflects a shared commitment to delivering reliable, long-duration energy storage at scale and to advancing a sovereign, Australian-led vanadium battery industry.

We look forward to continuing this collaboration as the Kalgoorlie VBESS process progresses.

With the rapid growth of AI infrastructure new energy challenges are coming to the fore including power volatility.

Recent reporting by the ABC News on proposed data centre developments by Cloud Carrier highlights the scale of electricity required to support the AI economy. But the deeper issue for grids isn’t just the number of megawatts required it’s how those megawatts behave.

AI workloads don’t draw power in a steady, predictable way. They surge, idle and fluctuate continuously, this creates highly volatile load profiles that can place significant stress on local grids, feeders and substations. As larger facilities come online, managing power quality, ramp rates and grid stability will become a critical challenge for energy planners and data centre operators alike.

This is where vanadium flow batteries (VFBs) present a compelling solution.

Unlike conventional lithium-ion systems, which were designed primarily for short bursts of energy, VFBs are engineered for continuous cycling and endurance, making them well suited to smoothing the volatile power profiles created by AI infrastructure.

Positioned alongside data centres, long-duration flow battery systems can effectively act as power stabilisers, absorbing volatility in real time while supporting reliable, resilient energy supply.

As the AI economy accelerates, the conversation is shifting from simply how much power we generate to how stable and flexible that power must be.

Vanadium flow batteries offer a pathway to ensure that the infrastructure powering the digital economy remains stable, safe and sustainable.

A small town in the NSW Southern Highlands is watching the AI revolution take shape in its backyard, as plans emerge to build one of the state's largest gas-fired power stations to run a data-processing complex.
