Almost half of the Australian workforce is stressed on a daily basis. That’s according to Gallup’s 2026 State of the Global Workplace.

We’re sitting at 49% of people experiencing stress for ‘a lot’ of the day – 9% above the global average. And as Gallup has noted “the percentage of employees who report experiencing a lot of stress, anger or sadness the previous day remains above pre-pandemic level”.

The psychosocial risk factors at work include workplace bullying, high effort for low reward and long working hours. These and the other risk factors contribute to almost 1.4% of GDP lost every year due to productivity losses, healthcare costs and mortality rates.
